| Thank you everyone for all of your replies...keep um coming! I really like seeing all of the photos. I am fascinated by the before-and-afters that show how much a coat color can change over time. My first Yorkie, Zeus, was a rescue at 5 months with a wooly coat that never turned from black. I know what you mean about feeling the texture of the hair; my new puppy, Daisy, has a much more silky feel than Zeus ever did. I have also noticed that her coat seems much less thick, particularly on her front legs. Thanks again, Heather |

| YT Addict | Seeing these pictures makes me really wish my husband had NOT buzzcut our baby at 2 months old when he all this cute hair! so fluffy!. I was so sad to see all that hair go, but he insisted that we get him use to the trimmers on our own. *pout* Now I sit and wait for months!!!!!!!!!!! Our Derby has very fine, thin hair and it's kind of matted. I think he'll grow out of that though because it's only around his feet that do it? and other than that I can't TELL because it's shaved and hasn't really grown back yet!!!!!! |

It's almost like waiting 9 months to see what your human baby is going to look like! I chose Daisy because she reminded my of my dearly departed Yorkie, Zeus, who was very black and never turned; as a result he always looked like a puppy through his entire life. From seeing her parents, however, I believe that she stands a good chance of going 'gray' .....so I have become quite obsessed with this issue. But then again, I am obsessed with her little round tummy, the 'parti-gene carrier' white on her chin and chest, those big brown eyes, etc.!

Your puppy is gorgeous; I am totally amazed at the transition from black and gold to such a light color.....just beautiful! What an adventure!

but yes it's exciting to see his hair change! He just looks so funny, and scruffy. He plays with other Yorkies at the dog park and they have these beautiful short coats and there's Derby- mostly shaved but a few sprouts/tuffs of hair growing all over the place! like a homeless dog!! LOL It's funny to think it was all cut to the same length, but it doesn't all grow at the same time... I'm just glad his face is finally filling out Last edited by DerbyLayne; 10-09-2009 at 11:40 PM.

| I located an article on the web that goes into detail about coat texture, color transformation, and breaking patterns. I'm wondering what opinions you all might have....? Check out this link @ Yorkie puppy coat color stages within the first two years of maturity - yorkie hair color Titled "Yorkie puppy coat color stages within the first two years of maturity" - quoted from The Complete Yorkshire Terrier by June Gordon. |

| I don't honestly know what Jackson is... I think he's silky but his hair is also curly-ish. Anyone help me out? The first two pics are of him as a 9/10 week old pup, then you can see he was a mess at around 17/18 weeks. The last one is of him currently.

| My apologies for being redundant; Yorkie Talk has an excellent resource on coats that is better than what I mentioned. What a complicated subject! Quote:

I wonder if he'll grow up to be like Jackson ![]() I had a woman outright tell me Derby was NOT a silky, and Jackson's doesn't seem like it either. Check out this link from the Silky Terrier Club of America comparing the Yorkies, Silkys and Australian Terriers complete with pictures of babies right to adulthood to get an idea!! it's awesome!. Comparison of Silky to Aussie & Yorkie check out that last LINE! in the Yorkie Section. (ignore the fact where it says it only has long hair lol) many pets go over 7 lbs Even though it said the standard doesn't go over 7lbs, many pets do. thank you Silky club!
