| ![]() A month or so ago I had an issue with Leo getting into some fleas. I gave him a bath and a dose of frontline (he got the right at the time he was ready for a new dose). It seemed to kill the fleas, but he was itching like crazy. My vet said that if fleas bite your dog they can itch up to 2 weeks, they suggested I give him half a bennedryl and that helped to stop the itching. If none of that is getting rid of the fleas you may want to go to another vet. I was told that the vet can give your dog a pill that will kill all insects on them immediately. I am sure it is not something good to use often, but if this is a really bad situation that is what it is for. |

| ![]() I'd be on the phone immediately calling the kennel to complain about the flea infestation they have there. If one dog is affected, then all of them probably are, and they should take care of their accomodations. |

| ![]() My dog had an infestation of fleas. My vet put him on Comfortis. It is a pill given internally each month. Within 30 minutes the fleas started dropping and he has not had a flea since and that has been six months ago or better. |

| ![]() In addition to treating your dog, I would treat your home. Borax will kill both the fleas and eggs. You can find it in the detergent section of your grocery store, it's cheap and will not harm your pets. Just sprinkle it on your floors, brush into carpeting with a broom, wait a half hour or so and vacuum it up. Borax is the ingredient that is in the formula for those companies that come out to rid your home of fleas but they charge hundreds of dollars and you can do it yourself for just pennies. You can also use it in your laundry in case you have eggs or fleas there. Here is just one of many uses for it... The Many Household Uses of Borax

| ![]() We use the Frontline Plus on Tootsie and she has had no problems at all..I agree with the other YT'ers~our breeder used Dawn on Tootsie before she was old enough to use the Frontline. I thought it may have been a little too harsh on her skin but if you use a good conditioner I'm sure you will be pleased!!! ![]()

| ![]() Please be careful using Borax. I just read on the above posted link that borax is toxic to humans and pets. |

| ![]() Go to the groomer you use, they do flea dips,if any dog comes in with fleas, they automatically do the flea dip and charge the owner extra for the flea dip. |

| ![]() I absolutely hate fleas!! When I spot one we do the dawn bath right away and break out the vac for the carpets. I finally stopped putting my vac. cleaner away and just put it in a hallway corner. I think i am a little obsessed with the vaccum I use it at least 2x a day to just to make sure there aren't any fleas or eggs. It seems like they can get out of control so fast. ![]() |

YT 3000 Club Member | ![]() I would not use a flea collar, they are dangerous to much pesticides and stay away from hartz, or any of that off brand stuff, it can kill dogs. I personally have heard horror stories of the flea shampoo and I would be scared of the flea dip, alot of places I dont think even use it any more. The dawn is you best bet and alot of vacuming, and washing of bedding, the fleas can jump out of the bag, if you can put the flea collar in the bag and it will kill them and they wont jump out. Fleas do not like cedar and euclyptysus spelling is wrong and you can spray them with a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water and the fleas do not like the acidic taste. I have used a small amount of vaseline and put it on the flea comb, they will stick to it. I have chesters hair short so that helps with the comb as well. good luck |

YT Addict | ![]() Yes, please don't use these. Especially not the flea shampoo. That is what poisoned and killed my first yorkie Mickey. I know I mention this all the time but I don't want it to happen to anyone else.

| ![]() If your dog is OVER 5 pounds I cannot sing the praises of Comfortis enough. We have 6 dogs, 4 large ones; we used to have a horrendous flea problem because we live in the country but that stopped as soon as we put the 4 big dogs on Comfortis. Our two Yorkies both under 4 pounds do not use it; but because the other dogs are on it, they do not bring in fleas to the little girls. Ask your vet about it.

| ![]() I really want to appreciate all the responses I've gotten about this problem. I bought some Dawn, and everyone--you were so right. It was a little life saver that I will be using to tide us over until I can figure out what medicine to try on him (I'm think K9 Advantix). I know one poster said this, but I actually did call and complain to kennel. It was the very first thing I did when I noticed the infestation. They were horribly unhelpful. They said that it was my fault that I was not fully protecting my dog from fleas (even though I explained to them that he had been treated for fleas only 3 weeks prior), and that they were not responsible. They said that if I had applied to frontline correctly, I wouldn't be having the problem. I really don't understand how I could be applying it wrong. Whatever. They lost my business. Anyway--thanks again and I will keep everyone posted. I know my little Cohen thanks you too! He was actually scratch-free for the last 48 hours.

| ![]() If using frontline plus. The dogs can NOT have a bath for 48 hours, before and after applying.
