| Am Worried - Need Advice I took my baby Zoey to the vet today for her 13 week shots (not sure why it is at 13 vs 12, but it is). I discussed with him that she had been scooting a bit on her rear and was worried about the anal glands a friend had mentioned to me. When I wiped her bottom with a puppy towel this morning, it seemed like maybe something hard could be there. He did the anal glands but not in front of me; and said they were pretty full. She seemed fine after, slept on the way home and I left her upstairs in her xpen with her open crate (first time) while I ran to the grocery store. I am home now and when I went to pick her up she let out a bit of a cry when I was holding her rear up to bring her downstairs and so I gently put her in her epen on the main level, went in with her and she was licking my face but when I went to pet her, she did not want me any where near her rear and she went into her bed. This is so not Zoey! Is this cause for concern, do I need to look back there for something, is this normal for a first time????? I am worried and just need some advice. Thank you in advance, ~Denise

| I have never had one with problems with their anal glands, but if they were full I can imagine it makes them very sore. Maybe put a warm wet cloth on it to help. I hope someone with more experience can help you. |

| If it is not done correctly it is painful...also I have never heard of a puppy this young having this done...I find this strange.

| Well, after giving her more time and trying to calm myself (sometimes I wonder who is in need of the most training), she started coming to the outside of the xpen and crying for me. I would go to her but if I approached with my hand, she would run. So I gingerly gave her attention verbally and then climbed into the pen (is quite a decent size) and sat down. She came and sat on me and let me brush her while I held a rubber bone in the other hand - our normal evening ritual. After some time with her, she is better now and is showing no signs of pain but rather apprehension towards hands. I would suspect that this could be due to the shots and the AG expressing. She is getting better as time goes on and given loads of patience. Zoey's mama is sighing a huge breathe of relief. I think if I had had children all of this may come easier, but I have loads of patience and love so all should work out well in the end. Thank you so much for giving me your insight and allowing me a place to share and learn!! ~Denise
