| I need help fattening him up!!! I recently was given a morkiepoo (he is 75% biewer yorkie). He is Just at 4lbs and he is skin and bones! The former owner had buzzed him because she couldnt deal with the matts he was getting so he looks a bit like a rat at the moment... but... you can see and feel his bones. I know smaller yorkies arent blump but is this normal for his size. I feel like he needs fattened up. How should I do that? Any suggestions would be appreciated. once i figure out how to downsize the kb i will post pictures |

| I have been free feeding. We just got him yesterday so any time he eats on is own is good. hes only eating a few bites at a time maybe 5-6 times a day. Idk if there is something high in fat or protein or something I should be giving him. He is 7months old |

| I posted asking a similar question not to long ago and this is the thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...in-weight.html I switched to Natures Variety Frozen Raw Medallions recently and that has helped so much. My Baci is now a healthy weight- and so much more cuddleable now that he's not so boney. There were many good suggestions YTers offered me in the abive thread that you may find helpful. Good luck!

| Some turkey rice and steamed broccoli and taking turns with some red meats such as round steak cooked and ground and mixed with rice and a green veggie, will do wonders. Feed him 1/4 cup three times a day.

so do you use the rolls? Do u feed on a raw diet? Im leery of the raw medallions. instead of his food or along with it? I have never seen them before. And u said cottage cheese in with the kibble? sorry for all the questions... it just seems like what you did worked quickly and efficiently. Last edited by bentleys_momma; 09-28-2009 at 12:08 PM. | |

I started out trying the rolls- and he liked them, but they upset his stomach a little. So then I just mixed in cottage cheese with his kibble (during August). I switched both of my yorkies to the raw food in September and could not be happier with their weight, digestion, etc... (I only feed the raw medallions thawed out, no more kibble). Nature's Variety This is the website for the raw food- I get mine at a local doggie day care place that carries it. But, you can find somewhere that carries it near you by looking at the website. It is significantly more expensive than buying kibble, but I've seen such positive changes that it's worth it to me since it fits in our budget. If you don't want to switch to raw, I still think the cottage cheese was really helpful. With Baci, he seemed to get full so quickly that he didn't eat very much. Now with the raw food, he actually eats all his food. Most of all, just give your little one time, if you are feeding a good quality food and add in a little extra like the cottage cheese, he will come up to a healthy weight over time. I remember how paniced I felt feeling Baci's bones, but he naturally put the weight on over the past 2 months just with love, attention, and plenty of healthy food. Also, consider feeding smaller amounts more frequently during the day if he seems to have a small stomach (like my Baci does). He's up to 4.8 lbs from 3.2 lbs And not anywhere near overweight- just healthy now.

| Baxter was skin and bones until he was a little over a year old. He has finally filled out. Maybe it will just take time. |

| I agree, sometimes it takes time for them to fill out. Its like a young teen boy, lanky and all feet. My nephew is 6'7 and is a stick with big feet. In time they will fill out. |

| Apple has only been on Nature's Variety Raw for a week, and I can already tell she's gained weight...I'm probably going to have to back off the raw, a bit, because at this rate, it won't be a good thing...NV raw is the first thing in her life that she eats the whole thing (medallion) at one meal...It's amazing! |

| Max and Sam are both 14lb. Sam is very "lean", and to look at him you would not believe he weighed 14lb. Both of my "boy's", are very active. (They have me worn out at the end of the day lol). I think if your babies are healthy and fit, it's okay if they are lean. Max is 21 months old and Sam was a year old ten days ago. Max has well developed muscles, and I can feel Sam's developing now. I love to cuddle Max's strong body, and like to snuggle Sam more fragile frame. My husband and I are so lucky. |
