| As a breeder, this is not a question of whether I can afford or not afford to finance a puppy. This is more a question of placement. I choose to have my pups going to homes where they are going to be well taken care of in any circumstance. Vet bills for small dogs are high and if you have to scrape together the money to buy the pup, then you cannot afford to keep it in the 'style to which it has become accustomed' in my home. snobby, maybe...but I want the best for my dogs and if you can't come up with the price during the 3 or 4 months minimum that you are waiting for it... I recommend rescue. |

| Our second yorkie Jewels was $1200. The breeder let us pay 800 when we got the dog and 400 two weeks after. I thought this was very fair but can understand why some breeders would not do this.

| I know but there is no way for the breeder to know if you are a scammer or not.

| Finance a puppy? Hmmmmmmmmm Well, some people don't have the money for a puppy, but they do find a way to get them to the vet fast if needed. I don't like the fact that there are so many puppy mills out there. You really can't find Yorkies at a low price, I know I paid $2500 for Princess. And I would do it again. A person who really wants a Yorkie, but can only pay for a mix breed, I would hope they would find a way to get the puppy of their dreams. I can't tell you how long I looked at my fish and told her I wish she was a Yorkie. Yes, I had the money for a pup, But I didn't have the time, so I had to wait. Five kids & a Grand baby later, I now have all the love & time needed for my happy pets,(I still have fish too) I'm not a breeder, Princess is two years old, I am going to breed her once, with lots of advice from our breeder and vet. My neice whould love a Yorkie, and would make a wonderful little mommy, but her parents can't put money out for any pets. I am going to give her a puppy from Princess, under the condition, that I pay for all the food and vet bills. If she has more than one, I'll make sure they go to good homes, who will love and care for them. If for some reason someone would end up in a bind, I'll be there to help, after all her babies would be my Grand Puppies right?

| I really started this thread because I was afraid that pet store taking payments would just surport puppy mills. I know there are alot af good breeders who want the best for their babies and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure. A breeder taking payments may a good thing, it just depends on the case. My maintinace man here has a 3 yr old Yorkie and he is the light of there lives. He works here part time so I know he does not make alot of money. When Bai-nah got sick they took him right to the vet. He had to have part of his thoung cut off because he tried to eat a spider. The vet wanted to put him down. But they said no. So they got a new vet who told them how to take care of him. They took him home and fed him by hand until he gained weight and relearned how to drink water on his own. He is now happy and healthy and Asia got to spend a fun filled weekend with her friend. so no I don't think money determines and good parent either. I just don't like petstores doing it for the money, they don't check out the buyers. They will sell to anyone with the money (or now the credit). Its just a product to them. |
