| NEW Parents of Mr. Lucky. We, my wife and I, have become the NEW parents of a 4 year old Toy Yorkie. The original owner is an elderly lady who moved into a nursing home and could not keep Mr. Lucky. We are both retired (last year). Sold our home and bought a motorhome to travel in. We were asked if we would like to become "Parents". We love our new family member. BUT, we have discovered he (neutered) does not travel in a vehicle well. He gets car/motion sickness and throws up. They gave us a "pill" to help with motion sickness. We really don't want to drug him everytime we go somewhere. This is both in a car or the motorhome. ANYBODY having experienced the same problems please advise us of any solution. We travel a lot and want to be fair to Mr. Lucky. Thanks. ELSTWO. P.S. He not only throws up constantly while in motion, he paces back and forth, and is a nervous wreck. He is not like this any other time except when the vehicle is in motion. He does not even want to get into a vehicle. Last edited by elstwo; 09-24-2009 at 10:37 AM. Reason: Additional |

| Hi and welcome to yorkie talk. Mr lucky sure is a very "lucky" little guy to have you rescue him. Too bad about his original owner. Could you take him for visits with her? I'm sure there is someone here who has an answer to you predicament. Just wanted to say hi and welcome.

| Welcome to YT! How does Mr. Lucky travel? In a cage, pet seat or loose in the vehicle. Sometimes a yorkie can feel overwhelmed by too much room to roam. Perhaps if your wife could hold him and cuddle him even sing to him he might settle down. We travel with our Sophie in a pet car seat and she just curls up and sleeps because it is small and secure. It's a pet view car seat that sits up high so she can see out of the window. These seats come with a sewn in leash that attaches to the dog harness. It works beautifully. Jackie & my Sophie |

| Well to answer the 1st question. We live in North Georgia and the original owner lives in South Georgia, about 250 miles away. And we are always on the road somewhere so a visit is hard to do. Thanks for the welcome. Mr. Lucky is a wonderful addition, just want him to be happy traveling with us. |

| My wife did just that, held him, sang to him, also put in carrier for a while. Nothing seemed to help. Ok, so where do we get a pet view seat? Name brand, location etc. Thanks |

| Welcome to YT and congrat's on being new parents to a Yorkie.. My boy use to get sick in the car when we would go camping a two hour drive, but he got use to it. Now he just cuddles up on my lap and falls to sleep or he will sleep in his car seat.

| Google HunterK9 and look for booster seats. They have about the best price. There are a variety of types. I use the Pet Voyager and Sophie loves it. Jackie & my Sophie |

| We got our seats at Petsmart. I think Petco also carries them. Yogi use to get sick every time, also. Being in the seat helped, since he could see out. And I also had his window down a little so that he could feel the air blowing on his face. One theory I've heard is that the motion of the car minus the air confuses their systems. I started out doing very short trips, just a few blocks, to the closest park and then we'd get out and walk around for 30-50 minutes then the short drive back home. As he matured and he saw that the car rides ended in something fun the car sickness has gone away. So try some shorter, frequent, trips in the car with lots of rewards and praise at the end. Also, I've heard ginger helps settle the tummy some. Perhaps try a ginger snap cookie before you go. As for him not liking to get into the motor home. Start going into it just to sit, play, eat, but not go anywhere. Let him see that it's not a big scary place. Remember he's had a lot of change thrown at him. Go slow, lots of reward, love and praise, he'll come around. Here's Gracie Ruth in her seat, patiently waiting for me to put the camera down so that we can go shopping.

| I have a 10-lb. Pommie who used to get extremely carsick in a hurry. Give him 1 Bonine tablet (available at Wal-Mart/Walgreens) 1/2 hr. before leaving.and put him into a carseat. Normally, I restrict his food intake before we travel but this last time I forgot and he did great. Blessings for taking in this little guy. Keep searching for an answer and something will work.
