| New Yorkie Mommy Hello all...I am Kim, Minor Treble's Mommy. We just picked her up on Monday. Sadly...we are having a little bit of trouble...mostly with bowel movements.....I am gonna read around but general help would be great. He will be 9 weeks tomorrow and they were feeding him Purina Puppy Chow completely wetted down. We thought that wasn't the best food since Purina and our cats didn't go well together. SOOOOOO we are slowly moving him to Eukanuba Puppy food dry---that's been wetted mixed with the other. Friday morning and then tonight...same thing....cried when he went #2....and was messy[ assuming it was runny since it's dark out I couldn't see the best. Any help appreciated.... Other than that I am loving him. He is a companion for me since I am disabled and spend a LOT of time alone[and have severe anxiety so he is to help me stay calm----well after he's housebroken and all lol]....during the day and at night while hubby and kids[ teens] are asleep. He's housebreaking fairly well so fair[ knock on wood]. I am new to yorkies...have some friends that had them...they said they were super dogs......So any new help would be appreciated....I am a tad overwhelmed and want to make sure I do the right things for him. I know there are varying opinions....on foods and hair and such.... With that said have a super night....and Doggie Kisses from Kim and Minor Treble aka Treble |

| I'm so happy you found us here at YT...welcome to you and your new baby boy. Sorry to hear you are having some difficulties with him and his bowels. Has he been vet checked and there was no health issues, such as parasites or worms? It does take a little while for them to adjust to new surroundings...is he drinking water okay? Wouldn't want him to get dehydrated. I'll hope and pray you find a food that agrees with him very soon...and his bowels calm down. Wait and see, he will be the light of your life very, very soon...how comforting is that?

| He has been to the vet and dewormed and first shots. With the breeder and we have their vets number. Our vet is on vacation[ our fair just ended we live in ag country lol] and he has an appt in a week. It's only happened twice..and I think maybe it's the switching of foods. but purina BLECK......Hoping Eukanuba is good that's what our vet recommends...since they have breed specific foods....as they age...can ya tell my mind is overflowing haha Last edited by MinorTreblesMom; 09-13-2009 at 06:46 PM. Reason: forgot shots info |

| Thanks...it was actually recommended by my nuerologist to get a lap type dog, yorkies in particular, and have a companion since I can't drive[ we live in the middle of NOWHERE so it's not like I can walk to a neighbor and say HEY LOL]. This is sooooo sterssful right now.....but hubby is helping as are the kids...once we get trained and comfy in our home with him, all will be awesome and calm ....you little doggie in your sig looks tired running so fast LOL |

| Welcome to YT! I love the name of your baby! They do make wonderful and loyal companions and my personal favorites for cuddling are the boys! I am so sure he will be just what you need and vice versa! Yes, there are many different opinions on what to feed. I suggest you look around and read the posts and draw your own conclusions on what you think will work for him. There's a ton of valuable information on this site!

| Welcome to YT. You will learn a lot here about taking care o your baby, from what to feed, better grooming products, health, etc My baby had a couple of soft bowels movements when I brought her home. If it continues excessively take her to the vet asap. If she get dehidrated you can give her a little bit of water down gatorade. Just make sure she eats at least 3 times a day(they don't eat much at a time especially at the beginning) and that she drinks water. Regarding the food, I started with Eukanuba but them I switched her to a premium food. The premium foods are not more expensive than the regular commercial foods but they will make such a big difference in your babie's life. If you have any questions let me know. I'm not an expert but I'm eager to help like everybody in YT

| Welcome! Your puppy's problem can very well be the new surroundings. My Sophie is 9 months old and we too have been feeding her the Eukanuba small breed puppy kibble and will switch to the Eukanuba Yorkshire Terrier adult food later on. It's a good brand,Sophie really likes it and we have not had any health issues. Our vet says she's a very healthy little dog. We don't feed her table scraps but sometimes some raw carrot and her doggie treats. (Oh, there is the occasional lick of whip cream when I go to Starbucks) No problems with her poo either. | usually during the first week of bringing a new baby home you wouldn't want to switch their diets on them at all. you should stick with the stuff you were given for the first week and then you make the gradual switch to the new stuff. personally, i would highly advise not using Eukanuba either, it has a high grain content and from experience with our golden retriever, that brand can cause many issues including kidney failure. i would switch to a much higher grade dog food, or if you are interested, i feed a homemade raw recipe that is very good for them and gives them cleaner teeth, good bowel movements, shiner coats, and overall better health. wellness is a good brand of dog food i've heard, but even it has some issues i've been reading about. keep researching and you will find something that you really like and the dog does to!! let me know if you want the raw recipe, it's super easy to make and it lasts for a couple months per batch in the freezer. good luck! |
