Ill rant for you. If I see a pitbull heading my way I will pick Tia up. I don't care what the owners think , Ill do it for her .Her safety is my priority. Also I will not listen to an owner which says "hes so friendly" I will go on my instinct with ANY dog but pitbulls forget it , I don't give them a chance. They have locking jaws which would kill my baby with one bite. I would never let her meet one if I could help it. On the other hand you have brought a pitbull up with a yorkie and you have 100% trust , good for you but just don't expect people that don't know your dog to do the same. Sorry to be mean but it is my honest opinion.:) |

To be totally honest I am afraid of them. They are a very powerful dog. I dont feel the need to have that powerful of a dog or have MY yorkies around one |

You are entitled to your opinion, just as I am. And I do think it is ignorant to say that you think pit bulls should be eliminated as a breed. Not to mention I found it incredibly rude as a "pit bull"/boxer mix owner for you to say that "the breed of pit bull which doesn't exist" should be eliminated. 1) Because "PITBULL" is NOT a breed. It is a slang term that encompasses many breeds. I could post a link right now to about 50 dog pictures and I can guarantee most couldn't pick the american staffordshire terrier out of them. 2) I think your statement is ignorant to say that a breed should be eliminated because of what man did to them. I did not say YOU were ignorant. I said your statement was ignorant. |

BUT ...when I have my girls out on our walks and see him or another large dog - yes - I carry them. Good thing I do to because I was charged one day by one who was off leash. didn't seem agressive but jumped on my back (like 10 times trying to get to them) while I stood and slowely turned in circles .....I don't take chances with ANY large dog. Yorkies & small breeds are attacked all the time - we see it all over this site. Why risk it ? |

I had posted that I believe the pit bulls should all be spayed and neutered. I would not want to kill those that are living now, but I do believe these breeds that encompass the "pitt bulls" slang or otherwise, were bred without any regard for the dogs or humanity. It was a MANKIND mistake, but it needs to end. The breed was not bred to hunt, they were bred to fight to the death. Responsible breeders are supposed to breed to temperment. The pit breeders bred to the WRONG temperment and only bred the most vicious, the strongest bites, the worst of the breed. I do not speak from a position of fear or ignorance. Over my many years (yes, I guess I am an "elder" as I was recently called here :D), I have had the misfortune of having way too much closeness with several pit bulls. My very good friend has a pit bull that is the most lovable thing -- but I would no more trust it than I would a serial murderer. I will pet it, be kind to it, even like it, but it will NEVER play with my dogs or be around my grandchildren unattended. I have had lots of friends and one family member that owned these dogs. I have seen them all stick up for the breed and claim they are all the gentlest dogs ever. But eventually, all but the one, have hurt someone or killed a pet and showed just how vicious it could be. It is not the dog's fault. And these were well-trained dogs with well-educated owers. Unfortunately, man bred them to be killing machines. They can only fight that off for so long. So, I am all for legislation that requires spaying and neutering of all pit bulls, whether they are called American Pit Bulls, American Staffordshire Terriers, or whatever..... We have made the right decision for so many breeds, we do not need to continue to live with the mistake that was the breeding for pit bulls. This is just my opinion and does not affect anyone else, except for the way I will cast a vote if given the chance. Unfortunately, I live in the land of the "good ol' boys" and backwoods dog fights are still a fact of life. So, I doubt we will get to vote as many other communities, states, and even countries have been able to do. |
Watch out for cats too!! Not saying cats are mean, but me and my DH was up in Lake Arrowhead and we were at some "Mom and Pop" feed store, I was knealing down looking at the bird seed and I had peanut in my arms and out of the blue the store cat jumped on my back and tried to swipe at Peanut!! lmao The lesson is if you have a small baby watch them at all times :D with a Pit bull or cat..they still need to be watched |
Yorkies shouldn't be biting to begin with. If Jemma bit someone, I'd bite her. Up to the owners to correct that behavior. Now if it is self defense, that's a totally difference issue. |

that was a bit rude don't you think. it is a known fact that Pits ARE great with children. If you take a step back from your judgements and actually research the breed itself and not the opinions you will find that they are in fact great family pets. they are gentle with children and were once even known as Nanny Dogs. a few facts: -pits are great therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, and bomb dogs. they are eager to please people and will do anything for them -Petey from The little rascals was a pit -the dog on little house on the prairie was a pit -Helen Keller owned a pit -The Pit Bull was America's mascot in both WWI and WWII -There was a pit named Sgt. Stubby who became a war hero by saving his entire platoon and capturing a german spy while being wounded in action twice. -Pit Bulls scored an 83.4% passing rate on the american temperament test. yorkies score an 82.1% (ATTS - American Temperament Test Society, Inc. - ATTS Breed Statistics - page 1) Here is a nice article on pitties. http://www.times-standard.com/opinion/ci_6993026 |
