Yorkie & Pitbull...Who said they can't get along? Let the rant begin....:p |
would love to see those pictures... welcome:) |
I wont rant , but I am not a very big fan of Pit Bulls I hate to sterotype but even with the friendliest of Pits the danger of them just pounching while playing is scarey... Being in the insurance industry I can tell you I have heard some real horror stories, not any that I would risk being part of... |
With two beloved Yorkies in the house, when my daughter wanted to back home and bring her 10 year old Pittie, I was really-really afraid. She assured me that Nitro was a gentle beastie, but ... He has been amazing. A true gentle giant. He puts up with more stuff from those little dogs than ANY beast should have to, but has never done anything more than give them a warning bark. If that didn't work, he simply removed himself to a bed or other "higher" piece of furniture where he could relax without them pesterin' him. In this instance, it worked. But he was bottle fed from the time he was only 3 weeks old and truly thinks he's more human than dog ;) :D . He has been very gentle with them ... VERY. |
2 Attachment(s) No argument here! I have both and they love to snuggle together! Attachment 291167 Attachment 291168 |

Be careful and most of all, constantly vigilant, for the sake of both dogs. |
I dont have pics but when my sister and I use to live with my mom. She had a pitbull and i had a yorkie and they were/still are best friends. Chaos (pitti) is so gentle and nice he thinks he is the small dog and Cupcake (yorkie) thinks she is the giant...LOL |
You know...DH's sister has 2 pit bulls and they LOVE Peanut..I have seen Peanut play with them better than a dog his size at times...I have had her 2 pit's in my house with Peanut, and they are GREAT dogs, they are really good with Peanut and they are not to hard with him, I wouldnt think twice to leave them alone with eachother, I wouldnt be worried about them attacking Peanut. The only thing I worry about is they are so big!! Any little movement can hurt Peanut. I think with the Pit Bull and any other big dog for that matter is how they are brought up, how they are treated.. Any big dog can turn into a monster within seconds..it doesnt matter on the breed.. My only concern is the size.. Zeues..dh's pit bull thinks he is a 5 lb yorkie and will jump on your lap and lay there lol... |
No rant from me. I am just a worry rat with my dog and larger dogs. A dear friend has a pit bull and had a pug. Just 2 weeks ago they had a horrible accident and the pit played to rough with the pug. They had been friends forever. Now the pug is gone. Nothing but facts. No rant. I am afraid I could not live with myself if it was my dog that was dead. So I guess I will remain a worry rat. |
I would never have a pitbull. I think they could see a yorkie as a small animal for prey. Plus they are too unpredictable |

I agree.. But I think this is with all larger breeds, not just "pit bulls" I think with any larger breed you always have to keep that extra eye out!! No matter how good of friends they are, and how much they get a long. Yorkies are so small with small little bones. With any little bite or rough play, they can get hurt easy! Knowing that I wouldnt leave peanut alone with a bigger dog. |
Pitts just fit into a sterotype and its not fair. I owned one years ago (a rescue) and had small children at the time, I was a bit worried... and all for nothing, she was bar-none the best behaved dog I've ever owned. With that said, my husband and I recently had to put our English Bulldog to sleep (on our Vet's advice) because he became vicious all of a sudden and bit three people within a two week period (two of which required a trip to the ER). English Bulldogs are not known to be vicious and are considered loyal family dogs. So I"ve seen both sides of the spectrum and believe that each dog is wired differenly.... you never know how they will turn out. Even our precious YT's could become vicious. Long story short don't always believe the sterotypes, its unfair to the dog - they should be treated as individuals, just as adults are.:) |
Our next door neighbor has a pitbull and she has gotten along fine with my Yorkie. Just yesterday I took Yogi for a walk and the pitbull was out for her walk and she ran right over to Yogi to play. She kept hopping over him like a rabbit. It was hilarious and beyond cute! I think that pitbulls have gotten a bad rep and they can be just as lovable as other dogs if they have the right owner. I was terrified when the pitbull saw Yogi for the first time, but they just sniffed each other and everything was fine. |
