| Yorkie holding a grudge? Anyone else have experience with this? My mother-in-law has a one-year-old female yorkie who usually has seperation anxiety whenever she leaves her. She practically has a panic attack and cries when she leaves. She doesn't like to go to anyone else. As far as her grudges go, if my MIL ever makes a loud noise that scares her, she runs off and won't look at her or snuggle with her anymore and it takes her awhile to get over it. Recently my MIL went on a business trip for a few days. She is now pouting again and my MIL is hurt because she now prefers to be with her husband. She has tried several things to get her to act like herself again. She takes her for a walk after work and plays with her. She has tried giving her treats and said she seems fine now until her husband gets home from work. She is upset because she only wants to be with him now. Anyone else have experience with their yorkie behaving this way or any suggestions on what she could do?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't think it's possible for animals to hold a grudge, as that requires a higher level of thinking than animals possess. What is possible, is that while MIL was away, the dog bonded with the husband, and now prefers his company when he's home. MIL shouldn't worry about this, or try to work too hard to win approval. I think it's healthier if the dog can bond with several people, and this means anxiety attacks are as less likely to occur because she has learned she can bond with several people. Some dogs are just "daddy's girls", but they still love their mommy!

But I wouldn't depend on getting another dog to become "hers." When you live in a family, you need to be a pack - all as one. I don't believe in one person having one dog, the other having another, etc, because then it creates tension and a lot of times the "YOUR dog just peed on the floor!" that sort of thing... lol. I understand one person mostly taking care of a dog more or something. But sometimes adding another dog into the mix can make things worse if you do it for the wrong reasons. Also, rather than one dog being the wifes and the other being the husbands, sometimes the dogs prefer each other lol. But in all, I DO think having 2 is better than 1. Just think it through!
