Question...Why would a breeder want to put a male down. Especially one as good looking as this one? I can understand (even if I don't agree) why a seven year old female might be gotten rid of but isn't a male breed-able for a lot longer than that?

And what a Angel face !! How can this happen , why don't we have law that would help these poor innocent animals. That lady doesn't have a heart.

We totally agree. It is great that there are people in the world, especially this Vet, who would put himself in the possible position of getting himself in trouble to save an innocent animal. He said he would do it again if the same situation presented itself. Kudos to him!

So let's continue to celebrate the positive side of this story and rejoice with the excited new Momma to be, Adrienne!

I could be wrong, but I *think* the USDA was charging her per pet and she didn't want to pay for Teddy and Max. I am not totally positive on this, Kit will know more about it than I do but this was my understanding of the situation.

I totally understand how you're feeling. It's funny how it sometimes works with rescues.

Initially, I was looking for a rescue yorkie to adopt, so Sushi could have a playmate. Preferrably in the same age range, young and playful like Sushi, small like her so nobody gets hurt. Then I came across Missy's picture on petfinder while I was looking for the yorkie. She was not a yorkie, she was older than I had in mind (13 years old at the time), and she was three times bigger than Sushi. But my god, I fell in love with her so much, one look at her photo was enough for me to KNOW that she belonged to my little family. Of course, adoption procedures can sometimes be a bit lengthy. By the time they interview you, check your references, home visit, etc. etc., it can be a while. And while it was all taking place, I was so impatient, I could not eat, sleep, do anything BUT think about Missy. My bf kept telling me not to get my hopes up in case I don't end up getting her but I could not help it.

The day they called me to give me the good news, I started to cry on the phone, to the point that I had to call them back because I could not continue with the conversation. Same story when I met her for the first time. She looked at me with her beautiful "old" eyes, and made me cry and cry while holding her in my arms and telling her that she will NEVER EVER be homeless again. That she will have my unconditional love and care for the rest of her days. And that we have a lot of catching up to do for the missed 13 years that we didn't have each other She's my angel.

Oh wow, talk about crying...your beautiful story made me cry!! That is exactly to a T how I felt the first time I saw Teddy's picture. I called the rescue immediately. I was on pins and needles throughout the whole process. I tried not to get my hopes up but that was impossible the second I laid eyes on the little guy. In some ways I was calm because I just had that feeling when you KNOW something is meant to be. I just knew in my heart that he belonged with us, I just knew it. But then I would have these moments of sheer panic when I would think how crushed I would be if I didn't get to have him here with me one day. I think it is impossible not to start thinking about your life and how it will be if they get to become part of it. Nick and I found ourselves planning where he was going to sleep, and whose lap he would want to be on while we watched t.v., and on and on and on, LOL .

Thank you so much for sharing Missy's story. It is so beautiful and touching. I can't wait until I can hold him and kiss on him. When you said that you had a lot of catching up to do...that killed me! Oh so true. I know I have missed his 1st 7 years (and what a terrible 7 years they were) but I can't wait to be there for the rest of his life .
