Traveling with Yorkie - Please help!

We're driving 2 hours away to a golf resort for 1 night. The hotel is dog-friendly so we're able to take our puppy (8 months old).

We have several choices:
1. Take our dog with us. We can either keep him in the hotel room while we golf (5+hours) or take him on the golf cart.
2. We can leave him at home and try to find someone to stop by during the day to change his peepads and give him food.

We're not sure what to do. If we take him with us, and leave him in the hotel, we're afraid that he will be scared in a strange place alone because we'll have to leave him for several hours alone while we golf.

If we take him golfing with us, we're afraid he'll get heat-sick or something.

If we leave him at home, we're concerned because we've never left him alone overnight or with anyone else before. Not sure if he'll be barky at the stranger or not.

What have you done with your yorkies when you travel? Oh and we don't want to board him b/c we had bad experience before.

we took him with us to the hotel with his crate and all his usual things and he seemed fine with no issues, when we were gone for a longer extended vacation we had my mother in law watch him.

That is one of the top rules. I was TDY to a holiday inn for 6mths in '92 and actually had a favorite cat with me. He had the run of the room and management/housekeeping had strict orders to never enter the room. It was only cleaned in my presence while I could be there to crate the cat during the process. I never had a mishap during my 6mth stay, and I worked 8hr shifts, leaving him alone. Of course, it was only cleaned about twice a week. 'course, I do realize that cats are waaaay more self sufficient than dogs. I'm just referring to the hotel security issue.

Keeping the girls in an xpen when out of the room would be an extra layer of protection against forgetful chambermaids. I carry the girls in a sling, most everywhere. Just not in restaurants.

we ended up taking Kona with us on our golf overnighter. We ended up bonding with him a lot more through it and had a great time.

we left him in the hotel bathroom by himself for 1 round of golf and dinner. he did pretty well and even knew to pee on the peepad right away. you were right about keeping the do not disturb sign up though because whenever we opened the door, he would speed out of there. it was strange because at home, he knows not to race out an open door unless we give him permission.

we took him with us on the golf cart for one and a half rounds of golf. it was burning hot, but we made sure the park the cart in the shade and kept him hydrated. he did really well!
