| Midwesterner in torential downpour Hey there, we're getting a ton of rain in the midwest and it's not stopping until Wed. i am trying to potty train Sadie to eliminate outside only. I do use potty pads only when i'm gone from the house for several hours, like if both Mike and I work all day, she uses them and only them, she's really good going on them, so when the rains and storms roll in, i'm contemplating letting her use the potty pads and not have to go out in the rain storm and get soaked and cold. My concerns: She won't pee in the rain very well, she's cold and shakey We hold an umbrella over her, but then we get soaked and cold (i have a cold) she did use the pee pads the other night when it was raining because she wouldn't pee outside so i had to try something and it worked. would having her use the pee pads only during increment weather until she can fit into her rain coat and sweaters be ok?? or would it set us back in potty training her to go outside if we use both the pee pads and the outside in training her??? any experience with rain and snow and switching the potty routine?? |

| I think quite a few people here have their babies trained to go outside and to go on peepads inside. I know I do. Mine can't handle the winter weather here, it's too cold and the snow gets higher than they are tall so in the winter they use peepads and newspaper and in the summer they go outside. It works for us! Good Luck!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | We use both all the time. Roxy doesn't seemed to be confused by it either. With allll kinds of weather in Mich, we have days when weather isn't fit for man or beast. That doesn't change the fact that ya gotta go potty. Then if you're sick that complicates it too. I really don't care which place she goes as long as it's one or the other. She's got a good handle on going outside now so she rarely uses the pads, but it's there if she needs to go & we aren't home or up in the mornings. She has a doggie door so she can choose which place to go. Her choice is almost always outdoors. When I go out... or in, she will wait till I close the door so she can use her own door. Too cute! I've always wondered what people do with dogs that go outside only do in hurricane/tornado weather when you don't dare go outside. Especially big dogs. Yuk!

| Do you have a garage or out building of some sort? Molly has a big litter tray, containing gravel,in our garage which she uses when its raining. I have to carry her out there, but she always goes once i put her in the tray. |

| Hi RachelandSadie - I live just outside of Liberty so I understand the rain problem. My boy is just over a year old but won't go out in the rain at all. When I first got him it was cold so he got used to pee pads. Now even if he is playing outside, he'll come in to pee. I'd prefer the pee pads for emergency use only but once he got used to them, it is all he wants to use.
