The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | Summer in Minnesota Here in northern Minnesota we normally only have maybe a week or two of temps in the 80s and the majority of us don't have Air Conditioning. Well, right now we are in day 3 of our 'summer'. My three children are having a tough time with this heat. To cool off, Mazie my English Cocker, she maybe twice a day, goes and drinks the cold water then she puts each of her feet in the water bowl and then goes and lays on her back on the couch near the fan. Misty loves the ice cubes that I put in the water bowl and generally takes one or two and sits on my bed, munching on her ice cubes laying by the fan. Cassie my 13 week Maltese is really strange. She waits until Misty takes her ice cubes she then tiptoes over to the bowl and puts all four paws in it then she sits down and within a couple of minutes she's laying in the water bowl sometimes she even rolls over. Thank goodness I keep a towel close by. What does everyone else do to help their pups get through hot weather without air conditioning?

| I live in southern Minnesota. I live on the top floor of a duplex and boy does it get hot here. In order to keep it cooler in here, I keep the windows and blinds down and the front door open. Plus I have three fans on and keep the lights off. It's not much better but I don't have a window ac and the central air doesn't seem to reach up here. But at night I open all of the windows (if it's a cool night) and stick the fans in front of the windows to blow the air around. I have tried to put ice in their bowl but they won't drink from it until the cubes are gone.... I swear they are scared of it. I hope this helps. It's not much but if I had a pool for them to go in (even a kiddie one) I would so do it.

| HI Many years ago I used to live in Duluth! I couldn't believe that people would actually get heat stroke, when the temps were only in the 80's! When friends from there would visit here, they always had to take a picture of the temp boards. LOL They couldn't believe the 110's! Oh! I miss your beautiful state!! The drive to Gooseberry Falls was my favorite!!!! On up to Canada. Such memories!!! Anyway, some where I saw a post where a yorkie mommy. Took ice cubes, put them in zip lock bags and put a towel or blanket over it. Her baby made sure it hit the right spot! How about a baby pool? Maybe these could help out your babies. |

| They make cooling mats for pets. I would buy one if I did not have A/C. Here is a simple one PetEdge: Miracool Mats but they make some more elaborate that probably work even better. Just google "cooling mats" and you should find plenty of choices.

| I use the ice cubes for Rockie too, l aso went out and brought him a fan and it is near his x pen when we're not home during summer days. He has a little summer pool too. I sometimes will take a cool towel and wipe him down when it gets really hot.

| I would try ice packs and wrap them in a blankie or towel and see if the babies lay on them, and just keep water readily available. Good luck, I have forgotten about life with out air!

The 3 Musketeers Donating Member | Just an update, I filled 4 bags full of ice cubes and wrapped them up in a towel for Mazie - gave her two bags, a bag and towl for Misty - both these two girls loved them. I also made up a towel set for Cassie, my 13 week Maltese. Later in the day, I went to replace the ice cube bags and only located 3 of the four bags. I had also noticed Cassie going back into my bedroom then to the living room fairly often. I walked back into my bedroom and she had torn a hold in the bag and had spread ice cubes all over my bed! What a little s**t!
