Senior Yorkie Talker | Licensing??Registering??Help?? Ok I'm risking being torn to pieces here for my lack of knowledge, but here it goes...I have 3 dogs, a boxer and 2 yorkies. They have all their shots and are up to date with everything. I don't have papers for them because they are our family pets and companions. I have never been told or given any type of notices about getting them licensed. We've taken them to dog parks, take them on walks, they go to the groomers and the vet many times. No one has ever approached me about this. OMG! I'm so embarrassed. I live in Southern Cali and all I've been told is that they have to be up to date with their shots and rabie shot as well in order to be groomed. When they asked for proof of the rabie shots I just brought in the receipt. Please, someone tell me what I should do. I don't want to get in trouble. |

| When dogs get their rabies shot the vet office will give a rabies certificate or at the very least the paper work saying it was done.If you don't have that call your vets office and ask for a copy. You must register dogs at the county clerks office for a license where you will also need proof of rabies.

| Here it is automatic. When we get the rabies shot, they are licensed. They get a rabies certificate and a metal dog tag with their number on it. That is their license. It has been that way everywhere I have lived. Not for sure about CA but I am betting it is. Some cities may have additional license requirements, but the vets will usually take care of this for you at the annual exam. They even do the 3 year license here now that the rabies vaccine is available in a 3 year. I have never had to go to the Clerk's office. The vet handles all of the paperwork.

| A rabies tag and a dog liscense tag are 2 different items,I guess in NY it must be different but here a dog license and rabies are seperate,of course with their own seperate fees.

| As far as I am aware in Indiana or at least our county we aren't required to license our dogs. I even asked a friend who's a cop and he said he wasn't aware of having to do it and he has a dog. I know if we go to Mackinaw in Mi we have to have proof of rabies vacination but we get a tag when we get that done so we don't have to carry paperwork. What I have started doing is getting my vet to fill out a health certificate that I would have to have if I took her on a plane. This has helped a lot. |

| Here when your dog gets the rabies vaccine, you are given a metal tag for its collar and the rabies certificate. You mail the certificate, a check and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the county and they send you a license. If the certificate doesn't have proof of spay/neuter on it, you can send in a paper that does and get a discount.

| Here in Ca it depends in the county. Some make you get the license at the same time you get the rabies. Others make you get the rabies and them take proof to where you can get a license. You can be fined if you are out and about without it and most dog parks have rules that they must be licensed. (ours does) Where my mom lives they go down the streets checking the houses and if your dogs are not licensed you must pay for it or get a fine.

YT 2000 Club Member | I am from Sandusky Ohio and I live in Erie County. You have to register your dog and have rabbies vaccination. With Rabies, its for any cat, dog, or Ferret that is age 3 months or older, you are given a tag for each pet at the vets office. Then for the Dog License that we are required to have for dogs ages 6 months or older and they charge $18 per pet or $90 for a Kennels license. They do not charge extra for un spayed or neutered pets. This Year they went on sale December 1st and they extended till Feb. 2 2009for you to get them, after that then they will charge and extra $18 per tag or extra $90 for Kennels license. Jeter was the only dog we had registered for 08, so when 09 came I had 2 more pups to add. I missed the deadline by 2 day's and they only charged the extra on Jeter, not Yumi or Axl but it was because the girl doing the paper work for the tags only went by 1/2 years and Axl and Yumi were 9 months old at the time, so she put 6 months for their age. Other wise I would of had to pay an extra 18 per Yorkie because I was 2 day's late getting them registered!!

| In my county GREENE in New York State they require a rabies vaccine and a separate license that is administered by the county. If the dog warden comes to your house or you dog gets picked up on the street you can be fined for not having them licensed. An unaltered dog is much more expensive than one that has been nutered or spayed. Last edited by jacquelinebabco; 07-16-2009 at 09:59 AM. |

| I think in general when the rabies shot is administered you get a certificate, but I think in most states you have to have them licensed and to have that done you need the copy of your rabies certificate (and here distemper) to have them licensed by the state. Once a year we pay for renewals and have to update our shots. I would talk with your vet- ours does it automatically for us. Good luck.

| Here's my thread that has some info on laws as well. I am in OC, not far from SD, our laws are similar, but check with your county's laws as well. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...00-id-tag.html
