| What to do...I don't feel my pups are safe... So our neighbor left a note on our car letting us know there had been 2 robberies on our block this week. The last one was yesterday morning and they took the people by gun point and tied them up! I guess because all of the people losing there houses we are getting more people stealing. As any of us would be...I am freaking out. We called our landlord and gave him our 30 days...we are moving out a month from today. I am so scared that someone is going to rob us when we are not here or when we are here and take the twins. I mean I can replace everything in this house but I can't replace my pups. I found one person I would trust with them but they live in the same area so that is out of the question. The only other option is sending them away to my dads or sisters house until we move...and they are 2 hours away. I would only be able to drive out 2 days a week to see them but at this point I would rather not have them for a few weeks then risking someone stealing and selling them and never seeing them again. I am so sad right now.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Kennel or Pet Sitter? Have you checked on a kennel or puppy day care or even a sitter for when you are gone? As long as someone stays with them all the time with the hours you are gone and you trust everything should be fine. Twice a week for a month I could not do and I am like you your babies can not be replaced. I would check out kennel and doggy day care first!

♥Tiny Tia my Furbaby♥ Donating Member | You poor thing, that is really upsetting. having my home broken into is one of my biggest fears especially since I got Tia.I only started locking the back gate since having her too. The sooner you move the better for all of you but no matter where you live you always get people who want something for nothing unfortunately Stay safe.

| Crime happens everywhere. Lots of people get broken into and it isn't made public, so there may be more break ins then you know of. I personally think it is a little over the top to send your pups away, but that is your own decision. Do you live in a house? Do you have an alarm? We put things in our windows, along with extra locks so it decreases the chance of someone breaking in, but it can happen any where, any place in the whole world. |

I agree... if you have your house locked up pretty well I think they will be safe. You could put them in a certain area locked up if you are gone. Its sad they we have to be scared in our own homes...good luck with whatever you choose...

| I am looking around today if I can find someone close by to watch them...but so far no luck. I only know of one person I would trust at a doggie day care and she is in the same area. I totally understand that crime happens everywhere...but where we live it has just been getting worse. We have lived here over a year and I think this is the piece of straw that broke the camels back. I was talking to my neighbor and she said the same, it seems like people are just moving there way up to where we are. We live out of town about 20-30 mintues from Palm Springs and with everyone losing houses it is getting so much worse. I have everything in the house lock, we have security doors on the front door and garage door (not on the back slider), we are going to get the alarm things for the windows but the tenet that was here before us took out the alarm system. I will be so glad when I can buy my own house next year and not have to worry about this. If it was my house I would get an alarm and do a few other things and I would be fine but the landlord won't let us so we have no choice but to leave because I just know it is going to happen again on our street.

| I have had my home broken into, with a dog in the house, house locked up tight and an alarm warning on the front tree and the front door! I lived in a small village along the Hudson when it happened. If they want to get in they will. They were never found and I hope the died from an overdose! No I don't feel bad in saying that. They took things that can never be replaced. They did not take the dog, a little terrier mix gated in the kitchen. Had he been a Yorkie they probably would have. You have every right to be nervous. I don't want to scare you but it's true. I would get a light timer and set it different each day. They don't ramdom rob they watch and learn your pattern. Set the timer to turn on different times different days so they think someone may be in the house. Use a dead bolt. I had a ranch and they broke the back masterbedroom window and climbed in and stole everypiece of jewerly I had. In and out in minutes. Memories that can never be replaced. I really had no alarm just posted the signs to let people think I did. Of course after the fact I had one put in. Be safe, Last edited by ARCHIE; 07-08-2009 at 10:54 AM. |

| This would be such a tough decision to make. I'm sorry you're having to deal with it. The whole issue hits close to home because a friend's home was broken into last week and her elderly, ill shih tzu was stolen. Brenda always takes Betsy everywhere with her, even to work, but on that day she had a doctor's appointment so Betsy was at home alone. I'm sure you and the twins will make it through the next month just fine, but I will keep you all in my prayers.

I am so sorry. I think that thread is what really got me thinking. I could replace everything but I would be beyond help if I lost a dog.

I know if people want to get in they will. But once we get out of here I will feel so much safer. I know any place anywhere can get robbed but living here just makes me feel like I am daring them. I am going to do the light timer, that is a great idea. I was just talking to another person and they said 6 people have been robbed 3 of them people walking on the street. Mind you I go hiking behind our house every day I have off. The police told us it may be the same group but I can tell you one thing...I am not sticking around to find out. I was planning on moving into town in October so I am just pushing it up a few months.

| I would not send them away. Thefts are happening everywhere. Wouldn't you feel bad, if you sent them to live with someone else and their home was robbed? Just take all the precautions you can. Most thieves stay away from homes with pets because the barking alerts people. Some are smart enough to know Yorkies are worth a lot but few want to actually have to go through selling a dog to get their money. Items to sell to Pawn shops are easier. I do worry about ours sometimes when they are alone at home. But you can't let the crooks ruin your quality of life either.

| I can't really add anything to what has been said except I think doggie day care or your dad's house is the answer. What I did want to say is that your puppy is absolutly ADORABLE!!! Jackie- Mom to Sophie & Hazel |
