| ? Health Guarantee?? So many of you have responded to my questions on this puppy that I have found. Now, some of you have said get a health guarantee with the puppy. What exactly are some of the guarantees that you got with your puppies? Or if you are a breed what do you offer with the purchase of your puppy's. This lady said that she would do some kind of guarantee for me but I want to know what is an average health guarantee. I am going to go to see this puppy in a few day so any help would be appricated!! |

| The health guarantee should include the right to take the dog to a vet within the first three days that you get it and have it checked for common puppy illnesses. Then they should guarantee at least 1 year against genetic defects. Some breeders replace the pup if there is a problem (which doesn't go over too well) and some either help with vet bills or give you another pup on top of the unhealthy one (this goes for genetic defects, not worms, kennel cough, etc.). In addition to a health guarantee, the parents should have blood panels and bile acids testing done along with hip, knee, eye and ear checks and possible thyroid panel, urinalysis, etc.

Your breeder should provide a minimum of 2 vaccinations a vet check, etc. As far as parasites, if on the new owners original vet check the vet finds the pup is with parasite, kennel cough, ear infection, it is the breeder's responsibility to cover these costs. On the other side of the contract there are certain things that should be on it that is the responsibility of the new puppy owner and will be required to adhere to. Such as annual medical check-ups, temperatured housing, not being chained (and it has happened), spay/nueter responsibility if the breeder has not already had it completed, proper nutrition, etc.

| Good luck with your new puppy! Great idea to get a health guarantee, and making sure it includes the right things. It is a nice little safety net, although I'm sure you know you'll still want to do lots of other homework on the breeder, the puppy, and the puppy's predecessors. Can't wait to see photos once you getyour pup! |

| Mine is much more in depth and because it was drawn up with the help of a lawyer, it will hold up in court. But, what you must remember is a contract is only as good as the two people signing it.
