YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Are there any other neighbors that would sign a petition or something to keep this dog out of the neighborhood? I would think anyone with a pet would be afraid for these so-called dog owners to have this dog back. What a sad situation.

| ![]() I am so very sorry for this horrifying incident. I certainly hope that little Ike and his owners recover from the attack AND that they presue legal action. It sounds like a VERY irresponsible dog owner to me. As long as that dog is in the neighborhood with a STUPID owner, you and Reggie are not safe. I recently had an incident where a pit and a pit mix attacked my miniature horses - here's a link to the thread I started http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/off...mix-scare.html |

| ![]() I noticed you are in Georgia. Check the laws regarding breeds of dogs that are considered vicious. We live in Floyd County, and although there isn't an actual leash law there is a containment law that states that dogs MUST be under control at all times - they have to either be leashed or under voice control at all times. The Animal Control officer told us that we have the right to protect person and property and encouraged us to take what ever measures were necessary to do so - including using deadly force if necessary. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() Sooooooooooooo sorry to hear about Ike!!! I have friends who have two tiny dogs that were ripped apart by a larger breed dog. They are okay and made it but they were so very hurt! I'm glad you mentioned that not all Pit Bulls are vicious. It can happen in any dog. The reason that Pit Bulls attacks are so bad is because they lock there jaw and won't quit. You'd have to pepper their eyes (assuming you had pepper on hand) or hose them down (again hoping you'd have a hose available). It kind of sounds like the dog is not properly socialized, living outdoors and not given proper care. That combination with a Pit Bull is very dangerous. Pit Bull owners need to treat them the same way you would any other dog so that they don't end up vicious. I slept with a Pit Bull most of my childhood and never had a problem. Quote:

| ![]() I called animal control today and talked to one of the officers who actually lives in my neighborhood. She told me the officer who handled the case is out of town until late next week so she would have to talk to her about the case to find out the specifics. However, she did say that the only reason animal control took the dog with them is that he hasn't had shots so he has to be under observation for 10 days at the end of which time it is very possible that the owners may get him back if they pay all the fines. They do have to go to court about the fines though. I told her I was very upset at the notion of them getting that dog back and that I hoped that at the very least the judge would require them to muzzle him when they walk him. I also told the officer about them tying their Chihuahua out to the porch railing on nothing but a leash and letting him run free the other day. She told me if I saw that dog tied out like that again to come get her because that is not considered an adequate tether for the dog. If I see him loose I am going to get her too! I told her I was totally upset about this whole situation and had to voice my concerns even if it did make me a nosy neighbor. She laughed and said yea she could tell I was quite bothered by it all. |

| ![]() My dog was bitten by a silky terrier that was just a few pounds heavier than her. Recently we had another close call with a large Shepherd mix in my neighborhood. I suggest to everyone that you check first with your local PD to see if there is a leash law. Then ask if Pepper Spray is legal in your town. If not Citronella spray. I don't go anywhere with Calleigh now without the spray. You just never know which dogs will be friendly and which ones will attack. I won't chance it anymore.

YT Addict | ![]() I'm sorry to hear about Ike. It's no wonder pitt bulls get such a bad rap when dumbasses like this continue to own them. My Golden used to be quite aggressive, especially on a leash. There is no way in hell I would have ever took to to "meet" another dog , let alone one that was 1/10 of her size! I understand the need to socialize but when the dog is aggressive this is a long process that needs to be controlled!! Good gosh, what was that guy thinking?!
