Sooooooooooooo sorry to hear about Ike!!! I have friends who have two tiny dogs that were ripped apart by a larger breed dog. They are okay and made it but they were so very hurt!
I'm glad you mentioned that not all Pit Bulls are vicious. It can happen in any dog. The reason that Pit Bulls attacks are so bad is because they lock there jaw and won't quit. You'd have to pepper their eyes (assuming you had pepper on hand) or hose them down (again hoping you'd have a hose available). It kind of sounds like the dog is not properly socialized, living outdoors and not given proper care. That combination with a Pit Bull is very dangerous. Pit Bull owners need to treat them the same way you would any other dog so that they don't end up vicious. I slept with a Pit Bull most of my childhood and never had a problem.

Second of all, you are absolutely right that something needs to be done about that pit bull. Pit bulls are illegal in several states for a reason. I'm in no way saying that all pit bulls are vicious, but they are extremely tough and if you are going to own one, you have to take special precautions to ensure that they and all dogs around them are safe.
There is a pit bull that lives in my apartment building. I hope that his owners take more precautions then those you know... |
