| I have only had a few people say things like that (that were not family) or they say "Oh you have an ankle biter.) That one gets me more than a rat comment because I always just reply nope shes a dog, but when they say things about being an ankle biter that makes me hot. My yorkies are pretty quiet and they have never bitten anyone, I know just how you feel!

Even my beloved tv dog trainer Victoria Stilwell made that joke about a tiny pomeranian on one episode. Why'd you do it, Vicky???

Thor's Human Donating Member | Also, I know Thor doesn't care, but I still think it's rude. Imagine if you were carrying a baby in your arms, and someone told you, "your baby is very ugly." The baby wouldn't understand, but it would still be hurtful.

| i've had someone call milu a rat, and someone else called milu an ankle biter. and since i am usually in my own la la land. i thought those comments were supposed to be some sort of loving/funny joke. so i just laughed when they said that. but obviously those people were just being rude. and good thing i was too much of an air head to get it at the time when they made those remarks. because i have a black belt in arguing with people. ...i've once cussed out a buff security guard at the mall for being an a$$hole. (just goes to prove what an air head i am.)

| Yeah, it is annoying when people make comments about your animals. I haven't brought my puppy home yet but I have had a few friends/family members that have made rude comments when I say I'm buying a Yorkie. One of them said "Why don't you get a REAL dog?" I just think that's ridiculous but I just ignored her comment and didn't fuel the fire. I guess I'm just in love with a 'fake' breed then lol |

I think this thread really shows what a huge difference there is in the way we all view things. It is no wonder there are sometimes hurt feelings when others cannot figure why. We just do not all think about things the same. Doesn't mean one is wrong and one is right -- just means we have a lot of variety here. I think some people have more ability to laugh at themself and their pups without letting it sink in and ruin their day. Others are more sensitive not only to things said to them but also about things they say to others. It is just part of the wonderful diversity we enjoy in our world and here on YT! I am not a real sensitive type, but Iam glad that the world is balanced by others that are more sensitive. There are times when one works better than the other. No wonder we have both types of people (and every variation in between!)!

Thor's Human Donating Member | Yeah, I think you are right. I guess it depends on the person. I would be annoyed if someone called Thor a gerbil, but I think that's because I don't like gerbils. On the other hand, he's been called an Ewok a couple times and I think that's funny. Maybe I should make up a flyer and hand it out to people: "Mocking My Dog: Do's and Don'ts".

| I myself think that Mika looks like a rat when he has had a bath but I personally love Rats. They are very intelligent animals and they are so cute. Just like my Mika

| Some of my friends and family call Bella Mia "Rat dog" I think it is just cause they are jealous I give Bella more time and attention than I do them! I try to remember everyone is entitled to their opinion and just like _______ holes everyone has one! Dont waste a secone more of your time worrying about it. That person is obviously not worth it! |

| On the flip side of this... My kids and I were in a restaurant waiting to be seated. There were several waiting with us and one couple had twin newborns in carriers. The woman sitting next to the mother of the twins commented that "your baby is NEARLY as cute as a puppy!!!" Everyones jaw hit the floor and we, of course, cracked up. |

| A former co-worker, who was with her daughter, saw me and Prince and said that she hated ratty dogs. I said "That's ok, Prince hates rude people. To each his own". I think she'll think twice before she speaks rudely about someone else's pet. We no longer speak.
