"Rat" comments... grrrr!

Some people don't mean it in a negative way. But a stranger shouldn't be saying anything that could be offensive period. Some people know Yorkies were ratters (sp) and that's why they say it.

Just the other week a guy walking towards me said, 'you have a Rat following you!' Pixie was trailing behind me on her lead...he was laughing to himself like it was the funniest thing he had ever seen....I just smiled and carried on walking
As i said before...I have been hearing this 'Joke' for the past 16 years..I guess i have heard it one too many times and my patience is wearing thin!

So far I haven't had the rat thing but today one of my coworkers saw Roxy and said "I didn't know it was bring your dust mop to work day." All I could say what "She is NOT a dustmop!"

I had a rat comment yesterday from an old friend I havn't seen in a while.She said I didn't know you got yourself a rat, says her holding a westie a very small one at that.I just laughed and said you havn't exactly got a great dane either.Its not worth getting upset over and both "rat dogs" played very happily lol

Yes, my parent's and my sister's call Jada "water rat" what the hek is a water rat. They are all used to large dogs so when jada came along they all made jokes. I used to get upset, but now it doesnt bother me too much. We yorkie mommie's and daddy's have the cutest babies in the whole worldTry not to let it bother you, and just let them know that it bother's you when they say things like that.

I recently got in an argument with a friend of mine regarding people that make comments likening/calling Lola a "rat". This really, really makes me angry. Imagine if someone said the "so ugly it's cute" comment to you, and you said back "yea, so's your kid"

I was going to say that about the kid too. No perfect stranger would walk up to someone and make a rude comment about their kid so why do it to someones dog? I agree that even though I still don't care much for the unwanted comments it is different with family. But even they have been known to take it too far!

Rat comments get old after awhile, you just get used to it. People are rude, no controlling what they think or say. I just pity those who have to make those comments because they obviously have never known the love of a Yorkie

I actually have never had to deal with a stranger calling them rats. I'd be upset but I wouldn't get really angry about it cause it's just not worth it unless they keep on and on or unless they try to hurt one of my boys. Sometimes we joke around in our house about them looking like little rats when we give them baths, but we say it out of love.

yep same here ive heard alot of people sa with first impression .oh she s so tiny looks like a little rat. whatever .people dont think you get upset over a dog ya know just your skin babies. i know if i said to same person oh my how cute your baby is looks just like a little chimp they would get upset. hmmm guess there is a diff.
