| Hi! New here and Yorkie questions Hi All, this is my first post! I am so happy to be posting on here. My fiancee and I are getting married on July 3 and as soon as we get back we are going to get a yorkie. Its going to be our wedding gift to each other. We already found a little girl that is beyond precious and she has the perfect temperment for us... I was wondering if you could offer any advice? I read that we should check under her hair to see the color of her skin to make sure she is healthy and also to check the inside of her ears. We will be doing this the next time we see her. We were planning on buying a crate and a pen for her. Can anyone reccomend any or sizes? Are there things we should be looking out for or need to know? Thanks so much and Im really excited to be here! |

| Congrats on getting married AND getting a pup! How fun! I would get a crate that is just big enough for her to lay down in or turn around in. Any bigger and she will use part of it as a potty.

| I forgot to add, I would get a hard crate cuz puppies like to chew. (Mine does anyway) This may help too: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ping-list.html Make sure to have nutri-cal (you can get it from your vet or petstores have it too) because they can get low blood sugar easily.

| Congratulations on you upcoming marriage and the new puppy! I am a newbie and just brought my precious little girl home this last Saturday. She has a small PINK kennel which is in a play pen for now. I also have her food, water, toys and puppy pads in there. I want to keep her contained to a smaller area while we are working on potty training. I am sure you will get lots of great advice here! |

thanks so much!! This is really helpful so do you think those adjustable crates are okay? I think I saw one that says up to 10lbs dogs and it was something like 22x18 and 13' high? I love your yorkie by the way, she is just precious! | |

Hi, you might want to check out this link - http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html Are you planning to crate train your yorkie? If so, then the crate should be just big enough that she could lie down and turn around in. You don't want to get a crate too big or else she may go potty in it. Also if you plan to crate train you should only leave her in for few minutes first and then slowly increase it to hours to get her adjusted (no more than 3-4 hours). For my furbabies, I tried crate training but just couldn't do it b/c I felt really bad and I ended waking up every 1 hour during the night to check on them. Eventually I just ended up gating up the bathroom until they were potty trained on the pee pad. Good luck!
