| Dog Phobics & Dumb Customers RANT! I have commented about this before, and today was the last straw! There are people, (always of a certain race, I won't say who b/c I don't want to offend anyone) who want to come into my shop. They start to open the door and see Uni running to the door, b/c she is our greeter and LOVES everyone. They FREAK OUT and close the door. Sometimes they scream, I kid you not. Then they shout through the door if I can put her away. Or they will even tell me to lock her up! They say they are allergic, but we all know yorkies are pretty much hypoallergenic since they don't have undercoats! Even still, let's say for instance they aren't hypoallergenic, if you are deathly allergic to dogs, WHY WOULD YOU COME INTO A SHOP WHERE A DOG HANGS OUT ALL DAY, EVERYDAY??? I've had her stay in her cubbyhole behind the counter away from the crazies. Sometimes I just hold her. I do what they ask b/c I respect the fact they have a strange phobia of dogs. They never say thank you when I do what they've asked me to do. Since then, when these customers (and I use the term loosely) return, they now knock on the door and just point. This has happened many many times, and they usually do not buy anything anyway, or ask if they can have something for like 50% off or more. (These people are all fairly wealthy and all drive expensive import cars.) These are also the same people that buy something (discounted), break said item in a day or so, and want a replacement for free! This has happened so many times I have a disclaimer in the store stating that certain items are final sale, we do not give cash refunds, we do not guarantee anything, we do not repair anything for free, etc. This disclaimer is so long and detailed b/c of all these characters that to a normal person reading it, I look like the crazy one. One time a customer tried to exchange a pair of glasses for a new pair. They looked like she ran them over with her car (a mercedes E class at that). Sh*t I'm trying to run a business here, not give you anything you want at below my cost! We're not even making any money nowadays anyway! So today, they knocked and pointed. My bf looked at them and just said "No I'm not going to put her away" and promptly walked up to the door and locked it! They stood outside confused, I guess they still didn't get the hint. Then we proceeded to play with Uni right by the door where they could see her in her super cutey glory! They finally left after about 10 mins. Oh there was another time when one person was already in the shop, and Uni woke up and ran over to greet her. She started dodging Uni and lifting up her feet like she was a rat or something! And she was wearing heels, she could've stepped on her and broken a leg! So we called Uni back and of course WE had to apologize! That's it! No more special treatment for anyone!!!!!!

| These people who you refer to are the same everywhere. They even cross the road when they see dogs approaching them. They think dogs are dirty, the funny thing is, the majority of dogs are much cleaner than them.

| Just curious, but where do you work? in a few months i am planning on starting a wedding coordinating business and plan to keep my love with me at work. I used to work in a convience store, thankfully, our inspector didnt mind b/c our "mascot" stayed in the back office in her bed (she was no kidding like 18 years old...). But i LOVE it here in germany, every place has a dog hanging around. My tanning place has two LARGE dogs (brothers) and they are the sweetest. i hate getting the hair on me but i love the greeting

YT 1000 Club Member | Sad to say but unfortunately there are people out there that truley are scared to death of dogs and sometimes not just dogs but all animals. My son has a friend who grew up in a house with no pets at all. We've always respected his phobia and put our animals up when he comes over. I don't want him to not trust us or feel comfortable in our house. I remember when he came over after we had first got Roxie. She ran up to him to greet him and he was dancing all over the place and totally freaked out. He would never hurt her on purpose but his phobia is real and we picked her up immediately worried he'd step on her. You could see the sheer terror in his face. It seems really over the top and silly to us dog lovers but to those who have a fear it's really quite scarey. It's just lack of knowledge about animals or something bad happened to them in the past. If only there was something we could do to turn them into dog lovers too!!

| First off let me appologize right off if I seem to be highjacking this thread and turning it to a tribute to our Austrailian Sheppard Rocky who had to be put down this Feb. 9 because of a brain tumor. But Roxies Mom is absolutly right up until 9 years ago I was one of those people who was scared to death of dogs, or come to think of it any animal really. I was brought up with no pets, we had a duck once but still recall being afraid of it. Mom always said to stay away from dogs because they could bite or hurt you, so probablly where the phobia began. Any how I was always terrified of dogs big, small it didn't matter it was a dog, I was so afraid that once I was walking to school and I realized that 2 dogs were behind me and I just started running right across a very busy intersection with out thinking, all I could think is I need to get away! My point is the fear really overtakes you and that's it all you fell is the fear. Now let's fast forward to 9 years ago my daughter was 16 and her boyfriend broke up with her, she didn't take it to well. hubby had the brilliant idea of oh if we get her a dog she'll get over it lol. So he convinced me to go see some pups he saw that were adorable and the parents were very docile and didn't bark. For the sake of my daughter i found the courage and went explaining to my daughter that if i couldn't stay that was it no dog, when we walking in Rocky automatically yelped and rand for my daughter jumping on her and kissing her, and the smile on her face was priceless, I was still afraid and told her I'll think about it. I was still fearful but I wanted to see her happy so I told her she could have him. This is the part of were all my fear just left . When she went to pick him up a week later and brought him home he was in her arms I asked her to put him down so he could get familiar with the surroundings. This poor little thing started shaking like a leaf really bad, he was soooooo terrified and that's all I could see a little poor helpless baby that was terrified, all of a sudden it wasn't a dog that could hurt me but a helpless little baby that was terrified, I actually said oh poor little thing, and cuddle him, (without thinking)and that's when I realized he wasn't a dog but another one of my children. So in Feb. when he got sick and we had to put him down the same moment we found out how sick he was I cried and cried as he trully was a family member. We had him creamated and is home with us. I will always love that big guy. Within 2 weeks of him being gone i just couldn't take not having that love around that presence, I didn't want another big because I felt like I didn't want to replace him, so that's why I went for the adorable chocoalte yorkie (Gizmo)and then of course one is not enough so that's how Stellina came to be. Now I am able to love pick up coudle kiss these dogs without any fear at all( and feel like they are my babies). All this to say yes people do have real God honest fear of dogs. And Rocky I thank you for making me lose that frear and truly feel unconditional love every day of your life......I love you and will always miss you, my baby.xo again sorry for this being so long. |

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I go to a shop that keeps their dog and cat there. The dog never goes out to the customer area, however he may jump up high enough to let you pet him over the counter if you wish. The cat will get on the counter sometimes but still never comes out to the customer area. She always jumps up to see our Yorkie in her bag when I set her up there. I have watched several people change seats on a plane because someone didn't want to sit next to a dog or said they were allergic. Hubby and I worked with a woman who hated dogs, maybe animals in general for all I know. But she even hated her husbands dog "Ginger" who she called a "beast" and he just loved that dog. He told us once how the dog got sick and he went to put her in the back seat to go to the vet and his wife refused. He had to put the dog in the TRUNK! No "beast" was riding in her car! Some people don't deal with animals at all due to bad experiences or phobia or allergies or just hate dogs. I would not lose business over the dog, just keep her out of the customer area. It could be for her own safety!
