I go to a shop that keeps their dog and cat there. The dog never goes out to the customer area, however he may jump up high enough to let you pet him over the counter if you wish. The cat will get on the counter sometimes but still never comes out to the customer area. She always jumps up to see our Yorkie in her bag when I set her up there.
I have watched several people change seats on a plane because someone didn't want to sit next to a dog or said they were allergic.
Hubby and I worked with a woman who hated dogs, maybe animals in general for all I know. But she even hated her husbands dog "Ginger" who she called a "beast" and he just loved that dog. He told us once how the dog got sick and he went to put her in the back seat to go to the vet and his wife refused. He had to put the dog in the TRUNK! No "beast" was riding in her car!
Some people don't deal with animals at all due to bad experiences or phobia or allergies or just hate dogs. I would not lose business over the dog, just keep her out of the customer area. It could be for her own safety!
