I do like that most of you on this forum have clued into 'teacups'. I don't like the breeding going on with no mentors no help and some poor little female is due to have puppies whose owner has no idea how to care for or how to recognize if there is a problem which could cost her life and/or that of her pups. Anything can go wrong in experienced hands but it sure helps if you know what you are looking at and if you have a mentor and good Vet you work with to help.
I am rather distressed at some of the threads from puppy owners that really don't have a clue and I feel rather sorry for their pet. Although that is not totally i guess the fault of the owner, it is obvious they bought from someone who told them nothing about what to expect from Yorkies or being a Yorkie owner. They can be a difficult breed to own especially when they are sold too young. They take time, patience and an owner who is around a good part of the time.
Many are people I would never consider selling to, but then there are people that enquire for puppies or dogs from me who are not on this forum that I won't sell to either. Sooooo maybe the forum isn't that different from what's out there in the world but in my opinion, it is not the place to find a puppy nor is it a place to sell a puppy.
As I also mentioned before, many posts shouldn't be here but should be questions or concerns addressed by a Vet or the breeder the pup or dog was bought from.
So, what am I doing here? Well sometimes i ask myself that and often I take a long time away from it. But when I do get involved, I post because I figure if I have helped just one person and/or one dog or pup and was able to direct someone on how to find a puppy or dog and away from bad breeders then Iguess it is worth it.
I agree with completely and that is why I think it is so important that we have members like you here.

Well, many who come here have no intention of buying or selling a puppy. As a matter of fact, I've made several offline friends here, none of whom got their pups through yt or ever plan on breeding. That is just one small part of this site.

However, I'm sure I've made my share of mistakes. I'm not a professional, I've never bred my dogs, I'm just a loving pet owner. And right now I'm feeling offended.

I've respected you for many of your posts in the past, and I believe you have a lot to contribute, but I have to admit that I wish I'd never opened this thread.

They want that cute little yorkie even if they don't really know what they are getting into. They don't really know why they should get a dog from a good breeder that cost $2000, when they can get elsewhere for $900.

Also, many reputable breeders will not sell them a dog so they have no choice. But because they want one, they are going to get one anyway and that's reality. You, being a knowledgeable reputable breeder are in the unique position of helping guide these people to a better path. Running from it doesn't make these people change, only educating them does. So I encourage you to fight the good fight because not only do these owners need you but their dogs do as well.
I don't sell mine for $2000. Price is the least of my worries, a good home is the biggest worry. I want to be sure if someone is buying a pup they can provide the right home AND the Vet care. Can they afford the $2000 for a Vet bill if it breaks a leg? A few hundred for a Vet bill if it gets into something and gets ill? How many times have I had a Vet bill for teeth cleaning, illnesses that darn if I know why they got a tummy upset that put them in the Vets and it is always way over $100.
Unfortunately, many buyers we might turn down are not in the right time of their life or situation to buy a Yorkie. I try to tell them why. If they go elsewhere, that's up to them but check out the ads particularly on Kijiji or even here of some for sale being rehomed because the owner can't handle it and the breeder won't take it back.
I will also never sell for breeding and won't start now.
I take mine back ANYTIME in its lifetime. I got one at 14 years of age when the owner died unexpectedly of a heart attack and the husband couldn't cope with the dogs. i only had my little girl for another 5 months, spent $500 on vetting her when I got her home but she had a great 5 months. I helped him find homes for their other two dogs, different breeds.

it was really nice of you to post an apology. you didn't have to, it was just your opinion that you don't agree with things that are allowed on this site, therefore you don't feel like supporting the site by donating.

the thing is, this site helps so many people take better care of their yorkies. and it is wonderful that this site does not REQUIRE you to make a donation to be a member. which for how useful this site has been to me, i think they would be totally justified in making it a requirement. but it's really wonderful that they don't.

i haven't found another forum online that's so responsive. i get to ask any questions i have about my yorkie and get an answer so quickly from other members.
It's ok to ask questions that's not the point of her post. It's the selling of yorkies or someone coming on here wanting help with a litter because they didn't know what they were doing is her point...I'm guessing, can't really answer for her. If I have a serious question I'm asking my vet or mentor first not coming onto a fourm to get the answers.
I like the fourm for the showing thread and others wins, brags, ect...or how they do something in particular. Even grooming and what grooming products some use ect....seeing pet pictures and the just the pure joy of owning this breed. People sharing the love of yorkies whether it be their pet or the show dog. I come here for that mostly...I get so annoyed from the breeding section.......general questions pose no threat but actual questions that are arised on here that should be directed to a vet but are asked of pet owneres instead....that's when I shake my head...

Unhappy

well i just want to say that i am new to yorkie talk. and joined to get info from the experienced yorkie owners as this is my first yorkie. even though i have researched info its like being a mother of a child for the first time in which we wouldnt say, i hope ,to a mother of a human baby if you need to ask questions you shouldnt be a mother and i feel sorry for your baby. we all learn from others experiences we dont have to take their advice but sometimes other people have had same problems and just share what helped for them. also i see most of the people with sick pups are usually asking what can they do UNTILL they can get to a vet. at first when i read this i felt ashamed i had been asking for advice then thought again and said no im proud because i want to be the best mommie to my baby which may not be coming from a breeder for 2000 .00 sorry if that puts someone out of business but this pup even though may not be of the best quality still needs someone to care and love for her as she has been born already .if that means i have vet bills up the ... then so be it. i had a poodle for 20 years i didnt give her back when she was brought home with worms and needed iv s nor would i give back a human baby for a illness .you love them as they are and i would not say my child was ill because my family was not the best of genetics .sorry to go on about this and im really not trying to be rude to OP at all this is just how i feel .i hope OP does cont. to post threads as im sure she has needed info for us all. thanks to all of yt for there help and love of ANIMALS not just yorkies .

I agree with you. I have enjoyed reading the OPs previous threads because I feel that she is very knowledgable. I just think that people are offended by her, myself included, because of the way she went about saying she would never donate to YT. I personally think that could have gone without being said. That to me IMO is a kick below the belt

i know that a lot of breeders (or members) get angry with the irresponsible people who breed their pets and then come here to ask for help when something bad happens.

but the way i look at it is that by helping those people. even if you think they are stupid irresponsible idiots (or whatever you may think of them) you are really helping their dogs.

a lot of dogs lives are improved/saved because their owners are able to get help here.

yes, maybe a lot of the questions they ask should be directed at a vet instead of posting here. but how many times were we able to convince those people to please take their dogs to the vets.

the goal is to help all dogs. and if you must help the stupid irresponsible people in order to help the dog. why not!

I don't feel offended by her not donating, I don't either as there are a lot of members here that don't donate so why would it offend you because she won't donate? I don't support selling of puppies here either but it's not my forum so I can't tell the owner of the forum what to do. But it's the OP's opinion just like we all have one I do enjoy this forum for other topics and interests

im not trying to come off rude or start anything but even the appology or thank you sounds stuffy

when breeders behave in the manner that you put off, it pushes people further away from the so called perfect breeders...for one you are judging someone and rejecting them, and they arent going to want to deal with "reputable breeders" such as yourself, they are going to think all reputable breeders are like you. so they find a breeder they are comfortable with.

i dont care how great you are at it now..we all start at the bottom, we all have to learn it..great teachers make great students who make great teachers for the next group of students..you started at the bottom to. you werent born a "reputable breeder"

there are great pet owners on here
there are great breeders on here...you are juging the marjority of this site on some post from people who havent been taught...probably because some snooty breeder hung up on them so they went to the hobby breeder.

i feel bad for who ever sponsered you, im sure they feel let down by your ungrateful responses.

if you have better things to do then please do them. i cant for the life of me understand why you are on this site...you say its to help and educate but your comments today dont show that.

you cant teach if you feel so negative about the group thats listening.

i myself wouldnt deal with a breeder who talks (types??) the way you have.. knowing more and behaving like you are better because of that doesnt make you great.

There are things I'd like to say regarding some of the comments in this thread, however, I will refrain - because I don't want to have to suspend myself.

For those of you who think YT is a community where you can make friends, ask questions, get support, learn, and be entertained - PLEASE continue what you do so well here to make this place such a wonderful community.

For those who apparently think otherwise, why not take a look through the Sick forum or the Health forum and see how many yorkies have been helped, where some vets have utterly failed. It happens here all the time - contrary to what is implied in this thread. To see comments that imply otherwise insults those owners who've both received and given help.

Or just visit any forum, for that matter, to see the 48,000 great members we have here and what they add to this community. My thanks go out to them for making this such a great place.

This thread is now closed.
