| I am so glad the owner got a fine. So many people have big dogs that they refuse to put on a leash. A few years ago Laya got picked up and shook by a big boxer. She squealed so loud I thought he killed her. She sort of went limp and he let go. Surprisingly she was not hurt. No puncture wounds, but we do have to be so careful with our little dogs. Same thing, that dog came from out of nowhere. The stupid owner said " oh he just loves to play with little dogs". I almost smacked her!!! A lot of days I just take Laya out in her stroller and we come home and run around like crazy playing in the house. There are so many pitbulls around here. Some seem very nice but after our previous run in with the boxer, I just don't trust them. So glad your baby was not hurt. Just keep an eye out, I can almost guarantee that owner will have that dog off leash again...

| I'm so happy that you and your baby are all right. I'm glad that jerk was issued a fine. A couple months ago I was walking my baby at a state park. Piper was leashed and we were walking the bike paths. In the distance I noticed a man walking a doberman on one of those retractable leashes. I'm keeping my eye on the dobie as we are approaching and all of a sudden the dobie comes running towards us and the man is not pulling him in. I snatch Piper off the ground and the dobie jumps for her. I don't think he is being aggressive just out of control. Now the dobie is running around me and jumping. At this point I'm totally wrapped in the dobie's leash and the more he jumps the tighter it gets. I'm starting to get really scared and I noticed the guy is laughing and he is totally drunk. Finally the guy gets control of his dog and I get unwrapped. The guy tells me that his dog just wanted TO PLAY!

| I am so glad that both you and your little one are ok. In the obedience class that Sadie and I take they encourage and even sell pepper spray to carry whenever you walk your dog - big or small. The teacher had a labrador that was ruined for ever being a therapy dog because of an attack. The poor thing couldn't get over his fear of other dogs. My husband kind of laughs at me but I won't walk Sadie without it. |

| Man, that is soooooooo scarry! I had a big dog run up to Apple, the other day, while I was walking her in the neighborhood...I've got one of those velcro harnesses that I can yank her up and have her in my arms, immediately...I'm always on the watch for dogs running lose...I'm glad that dog owner got a ticket...What an irresponsible person to let his dog run lose when there are other dogs around...Thank the good Lord your baby is safe!!! | I am an owner of big dogs and a small dog. I love all of my dogs and I have trained them well. I know that they would never intentionally hurt each other but I will not allow my big dogs around my small dog unsupervised. There are just too many dangers. Even playing they can get hurt. Smaller dogs are just too fragile.

I have Muzzle attached to the handle of Lady's leash. You can't depend on being able to save your furbaby yourself. A dog determined to attack will just attack you even if you pick him up. | |

| That is a terrible story, thanks for sharing the warning. You cannot be too careful, especially if your little one puts on an aggressive show. A neighbor of mine had an aggressive dachshund and there was a German Sheppard in the neighborhood that got loose from its owner and for some reason wanted to attack the little dog. The neighbor swooped up her little dachshund into her arms, and the German Shepard actually bit it when it was in its owner’s arms! I did not see the attack, but I did see the dachshund afterwards and it was wrapped up in bandages like a mummy (and there was a big vet bill to boot, that the German Shepard's owner never did end up paying for as he originally agreed). Since that incident, I learned to scoop them up fast as I see any trouble. I will also turn around so any big out-of-control dog is not fixated on a target and only sees the back of a person. I am not sure, but think that action breaks the locked in attack behavior. |
