That is a terrible story, thanks for sharing the warning.
You cannot be too careful, especially if your little one puts on an aggressive show. A neighbor of mine had an aggressive dachshund and there was a German Sheppard in the neighborhood that got loose from its owner and for some reason wanted to attack the little dog. The neighbor swooped up her little dachshund into her arms, and the German Shepard actually bit it when it was in its owner’s arms! I did not see the attack, but I did see the dachshund afterwards and it was wrapped up in bandages like a mummy (and there was a big vet bill to boot, that the German Shepard's owner never did end up paying for as he originally agreed).
Since that incident, I learned to scoop them up fast as I see any trouble. I will also turn around so any big out-of-control dog is not fixated on a target and only sees the back of a person. I am not sure, but think that action breaks the locked in attack behavior. |
