NOW I know but bought the concept. If only I had found this site before I bought from a puppy mill. But from reading these posts you still don't have a guarantee that it will be smaller. Therefore I am going for an older dog next time and then, I do not have to adjust. I have had to really adjust to his size and I know it is just a number but if I had wanted a larger dog then I would have bought a schnauzer because I have had them before. I really wanted a smaller dog. You know I think I am getting the best of both worlds because Oni is stocky and to be honest is looking more like a small schnauzer. I know that there is a thread about your yorkie looking like a chihuachua but the heavier yorkies look more like schnauzer especially when you put them in a puppy cut. So I am adjusting and loving him more and more. Like everybody says on this site what is a number????????????

I agree with other posters here, if you do not know the lines from which you dogs come from and how they grow, then it is very hard to predict their adult weight. For instance Copper's breeder told me exactly how big he should be, but he was charting to be much smaller. She also told me that her lines tend to have a few later growth spurts. well low and behold he had a 15month growth spurt

which put him right where she said he would be.

Maddie's breeder told me that her lines tend to stop growing sooner, Maddie has only gained 5oz in the 3months that I have had her. She was charting slightly larger than she is now. at 7 months she is 2lbs and 6oz. I still expect her to gain some. But she is not following what the charts would have said at 12 weeks. I don't feel like you can go completly off of the parents weight either you have to look further back. Mad's Parents were 4-6lbs. but there were a few boys on the smaller side further back in the line.

Wow what do you feed your babies lol. I have been trying and trying to get Laddy to gain and nothing seems to help. I even started boiling chicken breast to mix with his kibble and adding missing link to it and he doesnt seem to be growing. He grew right on the charts to 7 months I hope he still has a few ounces in him as he only weighs 3.4 lbs.

I am confused as well... Max's Mom was 7lbs and his dad is 5lbs. Max was born in Feb and is already 6lbs. She told me that he won't grow much more but I didn't know dogs could stop growing at 4 months... I have a doxie/westie mix and he grew right up until about a year and stopped at 12 lbs. Who knows...

I don't for a minute think anyone can accurately pin point a weight on any dog. People keep forgetting that there are so many genes, that a puppy can pull any one of them. Why is it always a responsible breeder will know? That isn't true. The most one can predict or hope is looking at the parents and that again, is just guessing. All rep breeders can have a good idea but not on the nose. A "honest" rep breeder would say, I believe he will be in the 5 pound bracket, but, it is only a guess. I was told Jemma would be in the 7-8 pound range because of the parents weights. Well she's 6.5 months and still under 4 pounds. But I'm still hoping for more weight. But whatever it is, it is. Would not treat or love her any different. When I got her I made a commitment no matter what the size. And I stand by it.
Just my 2 cents which isn't worth much today, lol

I hope that the parents have a lot to do with what the off spring will turn out to look like because Rangers dad is adorable!
