| I have to disagree with you on this one! My nephew was born three days ago, and the doctor told us that it was only for cosmetic reasons. It would be much like having your tonsils or appendix removed at birth because they *may* get infected. Circumcision is mutilation. While I would not turn down a mutilated dog, I would not choose to have it done. I also am not going to choose to mutilate my son. Tail docking is very similar- cutting off a part of the body for aesthetic reasons. Quote:

I think the breeder I got Daisy from Docked her tail but left it a weird length...also I dont think she her dew claws were removed because daisy has little nubbins...one is only a nail coming out of her leg and the other is what I call her freakish nubbin. The surgeon that is going to spay her told me they could remove them while she's under...I'm debating...whatever is best for her...

| Twinkle and Wicket have their tails, (I think the law changed regarding docking in 2007), but I like the look of docked and undocked equally on yorkies. It's taken a while to get used to seeing breeds like rottweilers and boxers with tails. A friend who breeds rottweilers has found that a lot of people didnt want an undocked puppy, I guess docked is the look they were used to.

| Both of mine are docked. Laddys is really cute especially when he gets excited. Poor little Lolita has very little tail whoever docked it cut it way to short you can't really see it through her coat and have to feel for it She is still adorable though even without a tail.

what i know about tail docking (which is very little) is that it has to be done when the puppies are VERY young, like maybe at 2 days old. and i know that some people compare tail docking to circumcising baby boys. i guess for yorkies it would only have the aesthetic benefit. (if you prefer the docked tail look, which i do and i think many people do) it is very cute to see the little tail wag at 100mph. | |
