| cotton coat OK, if the eye thing in a dark room is true then Lexi has a cottony coat. I keep reading that if they have a cottony coat they are harder to take care of and that they matt up. Lexi (knock on wood) has never had a knot, tangle, or matt. My first yorkie Candy had a silky coat and I knew that Lexi's coat wasn't the same but I really didn't think that it was cottony. Anyway, my point is that I love Lexi's coat (it is so thick and soft), so when I'm searching for Lexi's little sister is there anyway I can tell if she is going to have a cottony coat? I would like for my next yorkie to have a simular coat.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I sure wish I could help you - I think seeing the parents is the only way but I'm not sure - Chanel has a cottony coat and it's pretty long - I do have to work harder on her but then - she is outside everyday playing and a busy girl - so I'm pretty happy with how it looks - IF I didn't brush her everyday - she would be one big knot. Good products help tremendously - I saw such a change in her hair when I started using CC Systems almost a year ago. |

| I think my Bear may have a cottony coat. I'm hoping anyway, some of the prettiest yorkies I have even see had cottony coats like Chanel and Lexi. I hope my baby is lucky too. |

| I don't know if this is anything to go by but here's my observation. When Jo was 4 months old he had the thinnest, smoothest, slowest growing hair that didn't have that fluffy 'undercoat' feel and he's got a silky coat now at 9 months old. Riley has the same coat (at 4 months) that seems to be growing the same way and has the same feel as Jo's did so maybe he'll have a silk coat too. My first Yorkie had a fluffy, teddy bear coat as a puppy and as an adult his coat was cottony and took more time to groom. |

| Chloe will be 4 months old on Friday. She started out with a nice thick cottony coat, then all of a sudden she started loosing the cotton. Every time I brushed more cotton would come out. Now she has very thin silky hair. She has hardly any hair on her legs. I can see new hair coming in, but she looks so funny!!! I know we talked about this in another thread, but I can see her skin through her black silky hair. Hope she gets more hair!!! Anyone else had this happen to their baby?? Joy, Nikki and Chloe Rose |

| I have one of each and to this day I am not sure how to tell, as puppies they both looked the same. I saw Chloe's mom and dad, not cottony but she is. Lacey's dad was a champion I did not see her mom, her coat is silky and more of the typical blue/tan. She has thin hair, though, especially on top of her head. I started using CC products, not crazy about the shampoo but the rinse is terrific and takes care of mattes on both dogs. I think if grooming is a priority, either one is fine. Both mine have longer hair and spend time outside each day but I brush daily. |

| I'm so glad to see people loving their babies' cotton coats! Maybe we'll think differently when they're grown, but right now I think Susan's thick soft coat is lots prettier than her sister's thinner straight as an arrow coat. But I like my hair a little bit fluffy too! |

| OK, after lots of reading and help from Vett, we have decided that Lexi has both. She has never had a knot, or matt (and I have missed a day here and there brushings) She is smooth and silky, but she has the thickness, and (very little) a little fluff when blow dried of a cottony coat. I think I was just very lucky and got the best of both worlds... Thanks for all the responses, you all are great...

yes - I DO think Lexi has the best of both types - She reminds me alot of Chanel when she was younger too but Lexi is more Silky than Chanel was - Lexi is a beautiful little girl - and I think your baby has a VERY pretty coat ! | |
