I agree. If you can get a Have-a-Heart trap and trap the raccoon, maybe it can be tested for rabies.

I'm not sure AJ tried to attack the raccoon. It very likely attacked him. AJ is very lucky he wasn't killed. Read this:

I am very worried about your cat.

Yes, the quarantine seems to be between 30-45 days.

I'm praying for you both. I have a raccoon lurking outside of my house and I am now terrified too. Please keep us updated on your situation.

I hope your little guy is alright. I live in NJ and I know when they say quarantine that just means that the dog cannot leave his backyard. He has to stay on his property. My son was bitten by a German Shephard and the dog was quarantined for 10 days but quarantined at his home, meaning as I said he is not to leave his backyard until the quarantine is over. Hope this helps and I really hope your guy is alright. Elaine

Poor AJ

I hope she was able to bring him to the vet . My parents had a little pom some yrs ago that was attacked by a raccoon , it nearly chewed off her leg! My parents rushed the pom straight to the ER vet, ANd thatkfully they were able to save Pom's leg, placed her on heavy meds, wrapped her leg up > and informed my father that raccons become even more aggressive during Mating season and when they have Babies around> Therefore You may have a whole family somewhere close by you . If Raccoon feels threatened in any way, she is going to attack . They did not Quaritine my parents Pom. I do remember though, that she was severely hurt .

I hate to scare you but if any part of you came in contact with the racoon saliva on your furkid you need to contact your doctor immediately. A friends 2 kids touched their dog after it got in a fight with a skunk. The police killed the skunk and even before the skunk rabies results even came back they started rabies shots on her kids just in case. I don't know about California but rabies are a problem in NJ.
