A little advice? A couple questions... When and what should I expect when chloe comes into heat? I've never owned a female before. Also, Oliver is out of control, he is scaring me around chloe... he is like a bull in a china closet 70% of the time and I am so scared he is going to smash her. When they play he like... backs her into the wall/couch/corner with his butt and tries to sit on her or something.... the other night he was doing this and when he swooped around with his butt he knocked her back a foot. I love him to death but he is making me terribly nervous. What if he pounces off the couch and lands on her?! What if he smashes her? He weighs 20# and she weighs 3#. I don't want to be mean to ollie and I don't want him to feel like he can't play anymore but he doesn't know how to play nice or be calm. Their personalities are totally opposite. Ollie reminds me of Marley on Marley & Me and Chloe is a total lap dog.

Yes oliver is fixed and yes I plan on having her spayed I'm just a little nervous about the procedure b/c of her size so I've been putting it off.

Females will be in heat after they are about 7 months old. For the situation with the two dogs, it is normal, you do not need to worry. Oliver is just trying to be dominant to the other dog. There is nothing wrong with it, he will not actually hurt her. However, if your other dog is younger than 4 months old you should consider separate them. Puppies before that age have not learned to be submissive. For some puppies it takes them longer to learn. Last edited by hatajay; 05-04-2009 at 08:49 PM.

At three pounds, Chloe can safely be spayed. Did you know that if you get her spayed before she ever has her first heat, you will eliminate her chance of ever getting mammary cancer? If you wait until after she has one heat, the risk rises to 7%. After the second heat, it rises to 25%, the same as an unspayed female.
