What is a Biewer?

i have never seen a biewer in person, they look so different from yorkies to me when i look at pictures of them.

i really would like to see one in person, are they very rare?

You are 100% right. They do not look like a Yorkie and this is what Carl Yochum needed to see for himself.

You should go on the links that were provided in this thread and see if any of the members of those clubs live near you. Give them a call and see if they would be willing to show you their Biewers. Best way to find out for yourself and gain a true insight right from a breeder.

They have only been imported to the US since 2003 so it is still a very new breed here. They aren't in every state, but we're working on it.

I had never seen one in person until I picked up Reggie. Now I own and show Frazier and am wow'd by the other biewers we've gotten to meet in these venues.

i c, don't they look very different from regular yorkies to you? or maybe if you had them for a long time, you can see the resemblance and similarity a lot better in person?

i was thinking about looking for a breeder and ask if i can look at a biewer as well, but they probably won't be too fond of that. i will have to see if there is a YT member who lives near by and invite them to a playdate so i can see what biewers look like in person.

In coloring, yes...in structure no. Upon meeting mine...I have had more than one yorkie owner ask if my dog is a yorkie. The features are the same.


I think the biggest difference you see on line in pictures...is a lot of biewers are kept in coat, unlike many yorkies you see on this site. Maybe that's why they look so different to you.

So Then they are still yorkies , of a different color . That because of the politics of AKC, had to be renamed. No different then the acceptable colors of dachshunds, double dapple or piebald is not what AKC considers to be standard colors , However they are dachshunds not boston terriers or Germane shepherds, but dachshunds. Biewers are simply yorkies if a different color. Because of a gene, be it throw-back or whatever. It is what it is.

When you breed and show Biewers you get a better understanding of a true Biewer. However, you need to understand that I am talking about the purebred "Biewer Terrier." This is the one that had over 100 Biewers genetically tested. You can see the difference.

If you contact a member of the BTCA, they would be more than happy to show you their Biewers. The BTCA is an educational club and is more than happy to share their knowledge with the public. Good Luck.

AKC's policies aren't even applicable. AKC isn't a German club which is where this breed orginated from.
