| After three months, I was still missing Paddy badly. I talked my wife into checking out rescue centres. At the time I also had a flat in Essex 18 miles north of London, so we got in touch with Battersea dogs home, who promptly sent out an officer for an interview and a home check. The Lady from Battersea was wonderfull, after she heard our story of Paddy we were accepted on the adoption list at Battersea, I considered this an honour, I still have our approval slip. For our overseas friends, Battersea is probably the best known dogs home in the UK Battersea In the meantime while waiting for a call from them we scoured the net and found a site, National Yorkie Rescue Centre and registered with them also. | Within a week or so, I was working in Kent about 60 miles from the flat and my wife phoned me around lunchtime saying that the yorkie centre had called. They had a four year old Yorkie at a house an hour north of where I was living who was booked in to be put down at 3.30 that afternoon, they had asked five other people to take him but they had all refused as he had bitten the owner, we were the last resort to save him. It was now approx midday, It would take me an hour to get home and another hour to get there, plus traffic and I couldn't leave the job till 3.00 p.m. After a few phone calls and a lot of juggling, I got home and picked my wife up and we got to the offending house at 5.00p.m. |

We arrived at Alfies house The people were really snooty, I was in dusty clothes as I work as an electrician and I felt they were looking down on me, but as we walked in Alfie rolled on his back for a rub and licked me, I don't know if he knew he was due for the executioner that day but he interviewed well

The Lady owner of Alfie showed me her right arm, It was black and blue and torn to shreds, she explained it was Alfies doing. She explained that Alfie likes getting on the bed and she had shooed him off and got bitten. Alfie had a hard plastic mat in the kitchen for a bed (which they graciously gave us) and an enormous leather bone nearly as big as him which he couldn't get his mouth round, let alone carry. She explained that since they had got two siamese cats which were now allowed on the bed instead of Alfie, that he had turned funny and they had taken him to a dog psychologist and couldn't work out why he had gone nasty. I think she needed a psychiatrist. I had seen enough and we took Alfie home with us.

On the way home we treated Alfie to a decent soft bed and some smaller bones and some soft toys. It was like all his christmasses had come at once. He settled in pretty easy, although he is a disturbed dog, we have a feeling that the man of the house may have kicked him around as he gets angry when legs move fast torwards him. And now on to his slow recovery Difficult times for him and us were to follow. next episode tommorow folks

How long have you had Alfie? I'd bite someone too if I had a crappy bed & toys that I couldn't play with!

We put Alfie in our car and started home On the way home he was going ballistic, barking at everything and foaming at the mouth At this point we realised that he had never been socialised and had been penned in a small room for four years Later to find out from his previous vet that he was five years old June and I were determined to fix him and we were so angry at how he had been treated He came from a posh house, they thought they had a show dog and he didn't fit the bill We don't care about all that We are real people who know dogs So Alfie had a chance Without us he was on his way for a lethal injection Last edited by coolbar; 05-01-2009 at 11:19 AM.

First rule was not on our bed although I have relented now and he has a blanket on the bottom of the bed, he knows his place, any creeping up and its the lounge. He hates being alone
