| Road trip ideas Loli turns 7 months old tomorrow! We are taking our first “road trip” with her. Every time she gets in the car she falls asleep. I think she may get a bit car sick. She threw up in the car one time when she was 4 months old. We are going to be in the car 6 hours tomorrow night and six hours Friday morning. I doubt she will sleep for 6 hours in a row! Any ideas on what I can do keep the drive interesting for her? What can I give her to help with the ride? What did you do on your road trip that helped ease the anxiety of a long trip in the car? Any ideas you would have for Loli and I would be GREAT! Thanks for your suggestions! |

| We take road trips all the time. Bring her crate, just in case. I always pack a little purse to keep up front with me. It has treats, a brush, food, a bottle of water, leash and harness, toys and chewys. My babies sleep in the car too. I keep her food dishes in her crate. I bring a blanket so she can sleep on my lap. I'm sure she will love it!! Have fun!

| traveling dogs Hello, We took a two day 1200 mile trip a few weeks ago and our puppys did great!!! We set up the crate in the back seat with dry food and water and a few soft toys and of course their blankies. They slept almost the entire trip! The only time my male cried was if he needed to go potty. They were 4 months at the time. I made sure they had their harnesses on AND the leashes with one tied to the seatbelt the little girl slept in her bed on the console with her leash locked under the console lid. Actually the first day he slept on the console the second was her. They both did great, even at the hotel they were great even thou they ended up sleepin with us and not the crate.teehee. I have ordred a large carseat to go in the backseat for both of them to be in. They have them so that the pups can see out but they are tethered in via the car seatbelt. They have special chest padded harnesses in case of an accident they won't go flying thru the window. GOD forbid..... Now I feel they will be comfy and safe at the same time. FYI, the best deal on carseats is at OVERSTOCK.Com. I also ordered steps fo they can get on the couch easier. My baby PIXI has LP/because of the bone shape it's congenital so I guess we will have to do surg in the future. I am just buying things to make their lives easier... Sorry this is so long.. Have a great trip, Be safe and God Bless, Sharon PIXI & SPIKE PS>>>>>>>>> Please don't give alot of wet food that can cause nausea, just have dry available and if hungry she'll eat if sick she prob. won't . Same with water just don't let her fill up on it... Don't forget your poopy bags and wee pads if you use them. Ours will use the pad in the floorboard.. ttfn Last edited by YorkieOwned5; 04-08-2009 at 10:57 AM. |

| I've done a couple 13-15 hour road trips with my girls. We have a Snoozer Lookout carseat that they stay straped into (with a regular harness vest or dress). It is very comfy for them, allows them to look out the window and is safe in case of an accident. We stopped probably every 3 hours or so at a rest area to let them stretch their legs and potty (as well as us), and get a drink, maybe a snack. We kept feeding times to their regular times and they were very good. They sleep some, and just watch some. I found the trip to be pretty easy with the girls. The only dicey part was staying at a hotel as they bark at every single sound (doors closing, people walking/talking outside), etc.!!!!

YT 3000 Club Member | Chester and I go on roadtrips all the time, he has a towel on the seat and another padded cloth thing over it and sometimes his blankie. You can give them some giner snaps for car sickness, ginger good for the tummy, I have read about it chester has never had problems. I take his own bag when we go anywhere, potty pads, treats, bones, food, baby wipes, and extra towels. I stope every 2-3 hrs and chester is almost 7 yrs old. He has a harness seatbelt that I will put him in depending on the traffic and where Im at. I also use bottled water out on the road they can get sick from the other water. |
