I've done a couple 13-15 hour road trips with my girls. We have a Snoozer Lookout carseat that they stay straped into (with a regular harness vest or dress). It is very comfy for them, allows them to look out the window and is safe in case of an accident.
We stopped probably every 3 hours or so at a rest area to let them stretch their legs and potty (as well as us), and get a drink, maybe a snack. We kept feeding times to their regular times and they were very good. They sleep some, and just watch some.
I found the trip to be pretty easy with the girls. The only dicey part was staying at a hotel as they bark at every single sound (doors closing, people walking/talking outside), etc.!!!!
