Can I ask how big your town is? Obviously I can't guarantee anything, but I very much doubt you have anything to worry about. I agree with other posters that an officer is much more likely to investigate homes where many sick animals are living in filth. There have got to be tons and tons of people living in your area with one or two more pets than the limit. Especially with cats. I don't know if you are getting any professional help for your anxiety disorder, but if you are, maybe you can discuss this with them. This seems like something ripe for anxieties to attach to - it's kind of a shapeless fear that has no definitive resolution. Also, even in the very unlikely event that you did get a visit, my guess is that you would possibly get a fine and be told that you needed to re-home one of your dogs. At that point, you would have time to figure out how to handle that situation. Maybe that can provide some relief for you, making a plan for what to do in the worst possible scenario. Good luck to you!

You could tell them that because the dog is blind it is at your house cause it gets upset when it is without the other dogs. But the fact is, it is not your dog so the most they could do is to tell you that it cannot live there, which they would first have to prove that it does. The catchin comes before the hangin.

| When and if they come to your home, ask to see a copy of the city ordinance. |

| Thank you guys so much -- I guess they give you 120 days and fine you for licensing issues, but I have no clue how much time they give you if you have a dog over the limit to resolve the issue/find a new home. I guess I will just try not to let this totally make me a nervous wrek, even though I'm sure it will. Now I have to figure a way to keep the dogs out of the front window, hmmm. |

YT 1000 Club Member | It really doesn't matter what your neighbors say if the dog is licensed under your Dad's name and address. All you have to tell police is that you dog sit for him alot. |

| A. No search warrant, no entry. B. Don't answer the door. Honestly, can't they put tax dollars to better use than this?

| I just want to say that your dogs will smell the anxiety in you from your breath.. so please try hard to stay calmer.. as it sounds to me.. there is not much you can do.. say what you have to say and worry about what happens once they actually make the visit.. I know it is always easier said then done when we are stressed so please do not take this as me thinking or taking your worries lightly..for I would be devestated also.. but just try to stay as calm for your babies as you can.. you do not need one of them to get sick from stress neither...sending you big hugs.. anne |

| Limits like this make me so mad. It's like limiting the amount of children one can have. If they can't limit kids they shouldn't be able to limit pets. Or have a number like 15 that would be more than a normal pet owner would have butwould stop hoarders that usually have many more. Our limit here is 4 cats/dogs total but the don't enforce it. In fact one of my friends that lives in town has 8 dogs. I would dfinitely fght this. Don't let them in.

The streets are absolutely terrible, huge potholes and such and they never get fixed. I truly don't know where the money goes. I may submit an article (anonymously) to the paper about how I feel about this subject. I'm trying really hard not to get too afraid in this situation, but I am fearful just because I love my dogs so much. I don't get into this too much on YT -- but I'm an allergic asthmatic and I got my dogs all in a relatively short period of time. I was always told I wasn't allergic to dogs, only to cats so imagine my surprise when I was constantly getting sick and I find out, oh nope it's dogs now that are high also on your allergy list. I spend probably 200 a month on medications for myself not even including dr visits and allergy shots in order to keep my health somewhat decent and to be able to keep my commitments to my dogs who are basically my children. I suffer daily through feeling sick and being miserable w/the allergies and asthma but I push on because I made a commitment to them and I love them SO much and I want to take care of them for their entire lives. I know I'm going off on a tangent here. It just makes me so upset that towns can do this. I understand there are hoarders and bad dog owners out there -- but to do these things to families where they have no idea what the owners do for their animals, is ridiculous. My life revolves around my dogs and I just wish this wasn't a constant fear going on in my mind .

| I understand why you are upset, but if they say this ,find out when this started you may be grandfathered under this change. I agree if they do show up at you house and want to come in they need a search warrent and it has to be specific. How would they know when they get there how many dogs you have and that they are all yours, you may be dog setting! I'm a police officer and I agree with above posts, they really need to find something else to look for . Murders,Bank Robbers, heck even speeders, but a person having four dogs...................Please, better things to do with your time!!!!!

| Okay, so my sweet little town allows, I believe, 2 animals total. Hold on, I need to do a head count.... Looks like we are at 5 dogs and 2 cats!! Need I say more!! One of my babies got out of my fence not long ago and we went door to door for several days handing out flyers. We got her back thankfully, but if I had to count the number of homes that were out of compliance!!! WoW! Thankfully, they don't do anything here unless there is a complaint. I am a volunteer foster parent for a rescue so if I had a problem, some of the babies would be become "fosters"!! Maybe you could check and see if there is a rescue in your area and see if they need any adminstrative help. If the authorities come knocking, you could suddenly become a "foster parent"!! Just a thought......

| I just wanted to thank all of you guys for being so nice and understanding. Sometimes I really think only animal and dog lovers would understand how scary the situation is. The paper's articles were split up. One talked about the new "animal control" officer going around and giving court summons to anyone in violation of licensing and giving them 180 days to fix that. The other article claimed that the old law said each person in a home was allowed 3 dogs. Which would mean this entire time I've been within the old law. They are now changing the law to 3 per household due to neglect issues they've seen within the city apparently. There was no mention of time limits or legal ramifications if it's found you have over 3 or how it would be enforced so I'm a little fuzzy on the situation. My DH is calling city hall in the morning for clarification so I can let you all know more about what they say. It makes me so upset because people that are going to abuse dogs and keep them in neglectful situations are going to do so whether they have 3 or 13. This new law does not take into consideration one bit the people who take wonderful care of their animals. It's so frustrating, but I am trying to be optimistic and hope that this will not affect us. |

Ask for an OFFICIAL city ordinance, a search warrant, and anything else you can think of. They can't just come in and they certainly can't steal your property without legal documents!

And if the people take care of the dogs and clean up after the dogs and don't allow them to be a nuisance, what business is it of the governments.
