| Double-edge sword... I've been reading so much about puppy mills and pet stores that sell dogs, cats, rabbits, ect., and the problems with buying from them. Although my Yorkie came from a neighbor of my mom's, who is a breeder, I applaud people who have purchased their dogs from other places. It seems as if the innocent puppies (and etc.) are being punished for the stupidity of people who run these mills and stores. If someone didn't buy them, what would happen to them? I hate to think of it. If I ever won the lottery, I would love to buy every puppy that needed a home, and then shut the mill or store down. I wish someone would talk about what to do with the innocent animals that are left there. Of course, the chances of me winning the lottery are slim to none, but something has to be done to help these poor animals. It's so sad.

| If I won the lottery (big time) I'd buy the mills, shut them down, & make sure the pups went to good homes. Pet stores wouldn't be able to get pups from mills, because there wouldn't be any.

| I know...that's why I said double-edge sword, but, it just seems so unfair...so sad.

| If every one would stop buying puppies from pet stores, puppy mills would HAVE to shut down because there would simply be no business. All the dogs would most likely go to shelters and rescues.

| The poor economy should reduce the demand for puppies. Puppy mills may shutdown, but more likely they will reduce production &/or cut expenses. The latter could have serious implications.

Thor's Human Donating Member | It IS sad, no doubt about it. Generally, there are two choices. (1) Save the puppy in front of you and finance even more puppies being produced. The mommy of that puppy is living a horrible life in a cage somewhere. She was a puppy once too. She did not deserve to suffer. (2) Do not save the puppy. Maybe that puppy ends up being PTS. BUT, at least the miller doesn't make 10 more puppies that need saving off the profit. Both ways innocent dogs may suffer. But if we have to choose, don't we want to choose the way that ultimately reduces suffering, rather than feeding into it?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I'm not sure we will ever be able put commercial breeders out of business, however if we raise kennels conditions, we will be helping in shutting down puppy mills. In the meantime, persuade others not to buy from pet stores, and over the Internet. The internet is now the fastest growing outlet for selling puppy mill puppies.

| AN ANGEL CALLING CARD By Maria Lelinho A feather fell out of the sky and landed at my feet; I wasn’t sure what it was for but thought it kind of neat. I paid no mind and thought no more Of what just happened here; I continued on my merry way my conscience and mind clear. That day I learned of puppy mills which breed sickness, death and fear; How awful are the conditions that these dogs must live each year. And only are the lucky ones that aren’t sick or killed; That will be spared a life of hell and escape the puppy mill. It was only then I realized That the feather was my calling; It wasn’t luck or happenstance that caused it to be falling. God had specially summoned me to help his voiceless ones; He gave me strength and fed my hope Now I do what must be done. I help save lives, find them homes and keep them safe and free; Not just once and not just twice but everyday you see. I fight the cause in dire hopes that puppy mills will cease; But never again and until that day will rescue angels live in peace. I now know what an angel is and how they came to be; They are those that rescue puppies from a life of hell and misery. Every rescue angel earns its wings by doing right; In fighting for the puppies And enduring for their plight. Only God makes angels and he does it every day; He gently calls each one aside in his special way. He may send a feather down and hope they realize; And if they do they will become an Angel in God’s eyes. Next time you see a feather, think long and deep and hard, It just may be God sending you An angel calling card. Copyrighted 7/6/01

| the reality is thought that there will always be people willing to buy from a pet store. Simply because THEY want that puppy and don't care where it came from or even about the bigger picture. They may have even been told but just don't care

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Pet stores aren't the only problem, buying over the internet, is just as bad. Unless you have seen for yourself where the puppies have been raised, you are condoning the suffering of millions of dogs.
