It IS sad, no doubt about it. Generally, there are two choices.
(1) Save the puppy in front of you and finance even more puppies being produced. The mommy of that puppy is living a horrible life in a cage somewhere. She was a puppy once too. She did not deserve to suffer.
(2) Do not save the puppy. Maybe that puppy ends up being PTS. BUT, at least the miller doesn't make 10 more puppies that need saving off the profit.
Both ways innocent dogs may suffer. But if we have to choose, don't we want to choose the way that ultimately reduces suffering, rather than feeding into it?
