Reputable breeders do their best to improve their lines everyday and that means genetic testing to produce the best chance at having a sound healthy puppy.
Another reason is when you buy from a pet store or even from someone who bought from a pet-store or BYB you are only continuing to support suffering, simple. Did you ever see how the parents are treated?
No light, no human contact less food and crammed into a cage that they can't even stand up in.
Thats just my look on this for me, I would never buy a puppy where I didn't know the lines and have a guarantee of overall good health.

Alot of good pets are passed up by people with such standards. My Yorkie is a rescue/Breeder Release. I got no guarantee of health and she was already 4 years old when I adopted her. She is beautiful I get compliments on her all the time, and she is coming around mentally too. She is proving to be a great pet for hubby and I. I'm sure her parents lived in the same crappy conditions she did before I got her from the no kill rescue. The lives of these Yorkies, etc depend on people who don't care if they have the "perfect" dog with papers a mile long. While I am pretty picky about what animals I adopt into my home I am not a purebred snob. I believe in my heart that my little rescue is just as good and worthy of love and spoiling as any high dollar perfect purebred with papers. But then I am her mom.

I don't have the perfect dog! I got my dog from a pet store and he is not even 4 and had Patella surgery and loads of other problems, that has cost me 3000 already. I wouldn't change a thing I love him to death, would I buy from a pet store or BYB you bet i wouldn't.
I am NOT a snob nor do i want a "perfect" dog, I just want a healthy one next time around. Would I adopt a rescue, for sure , from a reputable organization, a newspaper is not that.
Don't judge me, nor presume what I am. I simply meant I wouldn't adopt a dog I didn't have any knowledge on or not knowing what I would be setting myself up for money wise

And I am my baby's mom and I wouldn't change a thing.

I love the fact that you adopted your yorkie and gave her such a wonderful, new life
I bought my Suzi at 9 weeks old, before knowing the ideal time was at 12 weeks old. She was already at 3lbs. She had 2set of shots from the breeder , and did not come with all those "nifty" papers. That was not important to me. Still isn't. She is a pure bred by all means of the word. LOL . And knock on wood, has been very healthy. Her mother had threee pups , Suzi was the only female in the litter and it was the first litter the Yorkie had.
I guess it all depends on what matters on the person who buys the dog, but, we all want a healthy one, other then that, Papers? I am one that can go without them .
I totally agree with You By the way, I found my baby through the newspaper, god forbid !

She was not judging you one bit.... Sorry you had so many problems with your precious little one. I know how special our little babies our to us. Nobody is perfect , and we all learn by doing. That is ok, it is human .A newspaper, actually, if u meet the breeder, go to their home, see the parents, ask the right questions, and such , things might just work out. It did for me.

No, I wasn't judging anyone or where they decide to get their fur baby. I just don't want anyone to pass up a great pet who needs a good home because they have an unsavory past or no health papers or you can't meet the parents. When we adopted our rescue we were told how long she'd been in foster care, how old she was and that she was a breeder release and she'd recently had her teeth cleaned and been spayed. She even still had her spay stitches in, we had to take her to have them removed. That was it, no health background, no parents photos or meet the parents, no health or pedigree papers. Sometimes you just got to go out on a limb and take a chance for these little unwanted fur butts. If not sadly they either go to bad homes or worse yet are put to sleep. I understand the heart break of bringing home a puppy that is sick. My first Bichon I had 13 days, I took him to the vet several times knowing something was wrong. When a liver shunt was diagnosed I had to return him to the breeder and she had to take him to the vet to be put to sleep. That's how I learned about back yard breeders. I learned at that time the father had only one testicle drop so he should have never been bred to start with. I had seen both parents before I bought my pup but I never knew to check for that of all things! We then bought a dog from a pet store thinking that was the place to go, well we learned a hard lesson there too. It breaks my heart when people say I don't want a rescue because of the baggage they bring. Well, I have baggage too.

I understand what your saying but you are misinterpreting my post, this post was about a newspaper ad NOT a rescue? I am not now or never would be against adopting a rescue, this is answering an ad about a dog you know nothing about, nothing. I am not saying it's not right to get this puppy but know what you might be in for. Like what if he does have liver shunt, how devastating would that be and how many people can afford the treatment?
Yes some did get from a newspaper or a pet store (like me) and have been lucky others haven't been so lucky (like me again) so why put yourself through that when you are not sure, thats all I am saying. It's noble to want to save them all I wish I could also, but this little guy should be put into rescue and checked out and then adopted out, people need to be ready for what may lye ahead, thats all I am saying.

Well, if I breed, I'm sure mine will be in the newspaper. Am I going to take the dog to the vet before breeding and have all the tests run on her, YES. Am I a pet store or Byb? NO. You shouldn't go saying people are not good breeders when they put their dogs in the paper, considering, I'm not going to have a website, how else would you suggest I advertise??

LOL I'm sure I'll advertise on here too. But, I've already decided I won't ship, I will drive or fly myself though. It will be probably another 1 1/2 years though. I have a lot of studying to do yet.
