Yet another housebreaking question Hello, I am a new dog owner. I have a 11 month year old yorkie. He came from a very good breeder. He was purchased by a friend who could not handle his high energy. I bought the dog from them when he was 6 months old and had not been housebroken. All of the advice I read on this subject discuss young puppies or newborns and not really dogs that are a little older. I have tried everything short of standing on my head and whistling Dixie! I have the puppy pads, but he only uses them if I put him on the leash where he has no choice. I take him for walks and he will pee on every tree on my street and come in the house and immediately pee on the floor. I only recently learned of the crate method, but I don't know if it will work with dogs that are a little older. Besides it breaks my heart to think of leaving him in the kennel all day. I keep him on the leash at night to keep if from peeing all over the house. My expensive area rugs and even more expensive silk curtains will be destroyed if I he isn't trained.. I spend a a lot of money on nature's miracle to keep my house for smelling like a latrine. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I agree. It sounds like he is marking. If he isn't already neutered, get it done asap. It may help, but sometimes the habit can be impossible to break once they have started marking.

I got Milo at 7 months and crate trained him. It really is not a mean thing think of it as the puppys indoor dog house it becomes there safe place. It is very important to follow the instructions on the crate we tend to want to give them more room then sugested because we think that what they say is too small but in the end they are right. Your other option is with the pads pick a small area with out the rugs and gate it off and place pee pads over the entire floor area every few days remove one of the outer pads that the dog is not going on eventually you will see a pattern of were the dog is going and in the end that is were you place the pads. Remember there is no quick fix just like with children it takes time...and yes I also agree if you are not going to breed him you should have him fixed.

Hi, I think this is the answer I need. If I place an order, can I come and pick it up? I live just at the border of Shaker and Beachwood.
