| Hurricane Katrina....... Hi all, my internet has been down, but I'm sure all of you know or have seen the tradigy here in Louisiana, as well as MS & AL. I'm in a small town in west central LA. Even though we were not physically effected by Katrina, the effects we are feeling are so real. We have hundreds of people here that have left their homes, and can't get back to them, and may not even have anything to go back to. Several of our churches with means to help have set up shelters, and the local vets (we only have 2) have accepted as many animals as they can. I know several families that have taken in strangers and their pets. We are all contributing food for pets, money, supplies, toys, puzzles, etc. to make their stay as comfortable as possible, as it may be for quite a while. We heard earlier, our local nursing homes are now full...its so sad, where will all these people go? Our library has met with the kids in the churches and read stories and put on puppet shows for them; anything to make them forget for a little while. Several kids have already enrolled in schools, and we're trying to find out if they even have clothes and shoes to wear to school. I don't mean to babble, but we have a really serious problem here in LA, with not much light at the end of the tunnel yet. Please keep us in your prayers. Linda |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | you're in mine - It's a terrible thing that's happened - I'm glad you're safe and good luck in the days to come. I heard we have many of the school age children coming to Houston and many shelters are being converted from stores - I also have a big bag of lots of things that I'm donating to my local Petco - but the more people that pitch in the better - it's mass flooding and no electricity - how awful for that area ! |

| My heart breaks for all of those suffering. I try to get my 12 year old daughter to understand many different ways people and animals are affected by this disaster. The fact that many only have the clothes on their back as their only posessions, clothes that in fact, can not even be washed. The fact that so many are surrounded by water but may have nothing to drink. Also that the water everwhere is becoming contaminated by human and animal carcasses. Where do so many people and animals go that do survive?!? And for so VERY long! We act like we are primitive if we have to go without electricity for 4 hours. I just saw where a woman placed her infant's dead body on a door and let it float away....how very heartbreaking and overwhelming. If only some plan were made so that the people could move a little futher north knowing that others would take them in. Like a foster home for families during this 2 month period that Gulf dwellers can't even get near their home sites. I know that my home would be open to others. The southern states can't possibly take everyone in. |

| So glad you are okay. We just found our little lost sheep. She had been in Biloxi and managed to get to high ground. She's on her way to Texas now so we can get her started again. So sad. It looks just like those pictures of foreign countries! I've been through hurricanes - many, but I have never, never seen anything like this. I pray for these people on and off all day.
