Do any of you have doggy stairs?

I started a thread about this a while ago too.. We had the same problem and ended up getting some great steps for Daisy from GW Little..they have such a wide selection of pet stairs.

We have a very high bed and this 5-stepper is perfect for it! Daisy doesn't leap off the bed now!

I work with a man who make custom stairs for dogs ,all wood you stain them.to match your room, he make ridges on the steps so they have traction.If you e mail me i can send pic of the stairs. Sigh. One of the things I like about Thor is that he is too small to get on the furniture on his own. For the past few months, whenever I want to quarantine him, I'd maroon him on my bed. That's pretty much the one place he won't potty, so if I needed to get ready to take him outside, or wanted him to go to sleep, he'd get plopped on the bed. I do the same thing with my desk at work, so I figured I could crate-train him without the crate.

Recently he's decided he's willing to brave jumping off the bed, particularly in the morning if I'm cooking something. I think baby gates are in my future.

You can look at them on this site but Walgreens and CVS has the same thing cheaper. When I got mine there was a brochure included that told you how to order an extra step. I ordered the step because my bed is high. Both of my dogs use the steps going up but only one uses them going down. It took them a little while to get used to them but if I remember correctly there are instructions about placing treats on the steps to get them to use them

Wow thanks for all the good ideas. Piper's just so sqwatty that he can't get up on the bed, and my poodle's back legs are starting to get bad. I have no idea how old she is, because I adopted her from the ASPCA, but if it doesn't get better will be going to the vet to check it out.

I use foam ramps called scamp ramps. Each time I brought a new puppy in we spent an hour teaching them to only use the ramps. They always use them. They fly down them

I dont have any for Callie, shes 13 pounds and jumps on things well and off well, but my mom has an overweight beagle that cant jump on the sofa and will cry to have you pick her up and put her on the sofa well only my dad can do that comfortably and it made me wanna cry when she did that when I was there so I felt really bad and bought her a set from petco thats heavy plastic and has a sherpa cover over it and she will use them but not when anyone can see her its really funny because she will be on the floor and we will leave the room and there she is all comfy on the sofa. Callie and my moms other beagle will run up and down them and play on them.

I have the plastic frame w/sheep skin cover also...4 steps each (1 for Sofa, 1 for Bed). My baby will use them 93 % of the time, but then at times she will just jump up on the sofa/bed and then fly over the stairs....I swear sometimes I think she thinks she is rocky the flying squirrel

I have a 3-step for the living room so they can get up/down off the couches. Puddie will jump if he wants, but Bella will only use the stairs.

In the bedroom, I have a 5-step to gain access to the bed; they both have to use the steps because the bed's high. I run the stairs parallel to the foot of the bed as opposed to perpendicular: the trot up/down the stairs and make a 90* turn at the top. That way, it only sticks out about 12", taking up minimal space.

Pepper has never jumped up on the couch or my bed. He is too little. But I did purchase some steps for him for the couch. Now he spends most of his time up on the couch, being lazy!

One thing to consider when purchasing stairs is the width of the tread and the height of the riser. The stairs I got for the Yorks have tread/riser measures of 5"; these were built especially for toy breeds.

Longer dogs, like Doxies, need a wider tread (because they're longer and need more room), even if they don't need the higher riser. That would also work for larger, frailer animals like the heavy beagle described above.

Bigger dogs have stairs appropriately sized for tread/riser.

So look for the proper size for your dogs. One benefit: the smaller the tread depth, the less the overall "footprint" of the stairs, the less room it takes up in, well, your room. And they're usually less expensive than the larger ones.

We have carpet-covered ramps up to the bay window seat so they can look out and up to my bed. I have a footstool next to the couch and chaise to help them get up. They can jump on the furniture without the stools but I know it is a lot less wear and tear on their back and joints with it. They most definately use their ramps and stools.
