| ![]() Yes, swallowing barrettes is a common problem. Thank heavens she didn't choke on it. Hopefully it will pass on it's own and she won't need surgery. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() I would never use a barrette without a band, the band holds the in place and a barrette clipped to this is much sturdier than use alone. I just clip the barrette in the front part of the hair so that it can be closed tight. If I try to put a barrette around the whole topknot a few shakes of his head, and it comes off. Best of luck, hope she passes it OK.

| ![]() Please keep a close eye on her for any changes in her behavior. I think you should contact your vet for a heads up on this. Aside from being an obstruction, there is a slight risk of reaction to the metals the barrettes (and springs from clips) are made from that could cause seizures. I know it doesn't happen often...but something to watch for and react to quickly if need be. Please let us know how she is doing.

| ![]() I'm hoping that she didn't swallow the barrette and that it may have fallen somewhere else. If she did swallow it, hopefully it'll pass with no problem. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Thankfully it was plastic. Metal would be more apt to perforate the intestines. Hopefully it will pass through easily. If not, get your vet to take an x-ray. | |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | ![]() Signs to look for are constipation with loss of appetite and or vomiting, this could indicate an obstruction, which is very serious, and the vet would need to do an x-ray to be certain.

| ![]() My yorkie swallowed one of those scrunchie adult round cloth hairbows with the elastic in it. I waited for days to see if he would pass it and he never did but a few days later he vomited it up....i dont know how he kept it in him that long before it came up. That was scarey! Hopefully yours will be able to pass it with no problem. Just keep an eye on it.

| ![]() ![]() If you wonder about the “condo,” it is a round, carpet-covered type marketed for cats. From the very beginning of our lives with Abby, we noted that she loved to get into small spaces and found this cat condo while shopping for her bed. She absolutely loves it! She takes naps in it and takes her toys and treasures into it. Yesterday, I saw her running into it as she does when she knows she has something she shouldn’t have so when I checked her and could not find the barrette, I just knew she must have had it in her mouth and swallowed it. I am sorry I worried everyone but I do appreciate your thoughts and prayers! We love her so much that we couldn’t imagine her having to go thru such an ordeal! Needless to say, I’m throwing those barrettes in the trash! ![]() ![]() |
