| Leaving puppy alone What is the average amount of time you go off and leave your pup alone? Is 6-7 hours to long. I need to be gone alot in the next three days from about 9 to 3-4.....Daisy will have free roam of 2 rooms, food, which she probably won't eat and water and plenty of toys and chew things. She will use the pee pads. She is a little over 4 months now and weighs 2 lbs 10oz. What are the thoughts of leaving her for that amount of time? |

| Alone time I talked with my vet about this and he said that this is fine to leave them for that long. He did recommed keeping it in a more confined area, because they tend to get into trouble. Good luck! |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | My girls have been left alone for about 4-5 hours a day during the week while I go to classes since they were little...they have food, water, toys, beds and anything else they might need...I would say that she should be okay...just make sure there is nothing that can hurt them or they can destroy and you should be fine!!!

| My Codie and Katie are left alone from 8-5 because Jim and I work. At 4 months I think more confinement is important so she doesn't get hurt.

| ive left both my dogs alone before. Macy gets free riegn of the kitchen and powder room cause those areas are tiled. But yu have to kinda get on your hands and knees to kinda get at thier eye level to spot potential trouble they may get into. Like macy was able to reach the toilet paper and managed to get into the pantry(kids didnt shut all the way). aslo be careful of wires/and cables. |

| I agree. I thinks it is fine to leave her, but, definatley make the space small. TJ (7 months) and Roxy (9 months) are confined to a spare room, that I have had to make even smaller, kinda like a home made x-pen. I have cardboard wrapped in sheets with tall plastic garbage pails stuff with heavy boats and shoes (so they can't move them) holding the sheet/cardboard in place. My guys eat everything!!! They were eating the corner walls, the corner wood/painted moulding, the corner of the wood dresser, the corner of the wood/stained door, the wooden baby gate. Then I taped cardboard up to all these things, and they would eat the cardboard and the tape and the wee wee pads and the poop! SO, I wrapped up all the cardboard in sheets and I have finally have control of it. NOW, they only go for the poop (if they feel like it). Sometimes the wee wee pad will be out of the box and on the other side of the room! I am gone form 8 to 5 or 6 pm. Everyday is a surprise! Just when you think you have puppy proofed everything, they find SOMETHING... Just becareful. I have had to go to this extreme with their room (just imagine what is looks like with all sheet/cardboards and garbages filled with shoes :-) b/c mine like to eat and chew on anything they can! And it wouldn't be so bad, but TJ has an EXTREMELY sensitive tummy and I am constantly dealing with mucus poop and girgiling noises from his rear b/c of things his digests! |

| I haven't had to leave Bob alone yet. He's a 5 year-old rescue that I picked up 48 hours ago. I'm fortunate that I'm in a situation that I only need to go into work one-day-a-week for about 6 hours, but I am a little concerned about how that's going to play out. This coming Monday will be his first 6-hour stretch on his own. I have a pen and a crate, and I'll probably confine him to the pen, with his crate inside, although I am concerned that he will simply jump out. (I had a mini-dachshund who was an escape artist and almost always seemed to find a way out, and I know for a fact that the doxie wasn't nearly as good of a jumper as this little guy is.) We shall see... |
