| Having kids and yorkies? While at home for Christmas with all the family Tucker lunged at one of the younger boy's feet. It happened once and I figured it was a fluke. Then it happened again. The boy was sitting in a chair and dangling his feet and Tucker was across the room. Tucker just flew at him and nipped at his feet with a disturbing, protective growl. I was shocked and embarassed. We have socialized all our dogs with kids, adults, and other dogs since day 1. We don't have a lot of kids in our family so I suppose that socializing was a bit more lax than it should have been. He is now a year old and is just now showing this behavior. He appears to dislike my grandmother as well and shows similiar behavior towards her. I'm not sure where this aggression is stemming from. My hubby and I are very concerned as we will be starting our family within the next couple of years and are afraid Tucker might be aggressive around the children. Is there anything we can do to discourage this behavior and does growing up with the children make a difference? Please help us out, this is weighing very heavy on our hearts because he is very much a part of our family and the though of rehoming him would be unbearable.

| I suggest having him spend more time w/kids and get used to their quick movements.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have some well behaved neighbor kids that love my girls and in the nice weather when we are out, they come over and take turns holding them. Their mom's and I make them sit in a circle and we showed them how to gently hold them. 3 of the kids are boys and 1 girl and they range in age from 4 to 11. A couple of my girls aren't real happy about being held but they tolerate it. Maybe you can expose him to some gentle kids every so often to help him adjust to kids.

| Yorkies are prone to lunge and jump at small quick moving objects .... and that is exactly what a child is and Does This kind of behavior can be stopped But you'll have to put some effort into it First get some children volunteers Have them come in and play with your dog Be on guard and watchful for any bad behavior Most likely your dog hasn't be accustomed to children around him and this is a new and likiely scarey thing for him

| You should try to train him with kids but there is a chance he may never be accepting of kids. I have a yorkie thats been raised since she was 8 weeks old with my Daughter and to this day if my Daughter makes a quick movement around her she will alot of times growl. Shes never bite though so thats the best I can expect from her. When I have alot of kids in my house and its real noisey she wants to sit in my lap

| I am not much help since our kids came before the yorkies, so we have not had any issues. The only time we had an issue was when they corned one of our yorkies trying to get something away from him. So the kids got a lecture on better ways to get something back from the dog. I would say start exposing him as much as you can and make sure you talk to the kids about the proper way to behave around Tucker. If they are jumping around and being hyper it will only make Tucker excited and increase the behavior. I am sure with time and consistancy everything will be fine.
