| Oliver hates the car! Oliver is eight weeks old and has been with me for three days now. He's doing great but I do have a couple of questions. Oliver HATES riding in the car. I put him in his travel crate in the seat next to me and he SCREAMS the entire way! My ears can't handle this anymore. What should I do to make him more comfortable?

| Hmmm....I recall Mojo not really liking the car at first.....but, we took him everywhere and we bought a console car seat (from Snoozer), so he was next to me, but strapped in. He eventually learned to love the car....I know we didn't do anything specific to change it....it just took time, I guess. Now, he is ready to go...I say "go" and he is in his basket. And I don't know if it was the "car" or not being next to me....at first...but it seems after we got the console seat, he was better (had his blanket in it and it was next to me and he could see out the window). LilyGrace doesn't throw up in the car, but she gets really nervous and shakes....she has gotten better and finally realizes that almost every time, we go somewhere fun, and then, on the way home, she is 100% better. You may want to check HERE, there may be some good advice in this section.

| Try making the car a fun place. Stash a bag of treats in the car. For example, when you get into the car, take a treat out of the bag (already in the car) and give it to your baby. Keep the treat in your hand so they recognize you want them to have it...if you set it infront of them, they do not make the connection. Tell your baby how good they are and let them enjoy the treat. When you arrive at your destination, offer another treat, repeating the steps above. Before long, car rides are fun. As far as how to travel, Scooter has a travel car seat. He is strapped in (hook attaches to harness) but not caged. It is super soft and he even has room to lay down if we are going far. As your baby ges bigger, look into investing in one. Hope that helps.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think he's a little young, I didn't even have Joey till 12 weeks and you really want to limit the places he goes until he's had all his shots. I think short trips are best at first, and beware of giving a treat or food before or during the drive this can make them vomit, which would add to their distress.

| Also, try very short practice rides. Talk to him using his name & reassuring words as you ride, & put a finger in the crate & try to touch him with it gently or let him lick it.

also, at such a young age, you may want to make sure that you have nutrical on hand.

| When we got Buddy at 12 weeks, we had to travel in the car to bring him home, he was sick, since then I do believe he associated travelling with being sick, I realised that to get him over this it was easier for someone to hold him in the passenger seat so that he could see over the dash and the comfort of being held, then it was a case of getting a booster seat so that he could see over the dash. No problems since, but could you imagine being very small, being surrounded by 4 walls (virtually) and moving forward, backwards and sideways, ugh, would knock me sick as well |

| My Suzi is 9 months old and get car sick and very upset too. What I have learned is to start practicing with her. Let her go in the car while it is not moving... So she can feel more at ease , and the car is not a bad thing to be in. ALso, never allow your dog to ride in the front seat. Because, if their was an accident the air bage deploy and will kill your little dog. The same applies for small children. Buying a carseat and plaing your dog in the backseat is the safeest way to travel.

| I would take him when someone else is driving the car and you holding him in the crate in the backseat. Just drive around the neighborhood slowly so he can get used to the car and so that you are safe too. ~Kathy

| My Brooklyn hated the car also...she did the screaming thing as well. I made it a point to take her everywhere i went so that she would learn to like it and indeed it worked! She and Oliver love the car. They have the buddy lookout carseats and they are regular travelers now! They love going in the car..anywhere!! Be patient and consistant with short trips...hopefully he will learn to love the car!! Good Luck!
