| ![]() Not all yorkies in rescue have been "abandoned" is the story for 3 of our 4 boys. DJ was from an owner in S FL and taken well away to the Seminole County shelter. Zack's owner died and the family did not want him. Zeke was turned in. Harley D was probably abandoned by a BYB because of his age. Not being "lazy" but I work rotating shifts and an older rescue dog is better for both the dog and me. To bring a puppy in at this time would be unfair to the puppy. Maybe in 5 years when I retire it will be different I am able to devote the time for their care, well being and give them attention and play, and for them, the attention and love that they ones need. When they jump up on the recliner and put their heads on my legs, there is no greater joy or love shown. A lot of times the owners are going into a nursing home or assisted living facility and they have to give up their pets. This is where rescue groups and shelters really shine and find new homes for the pets. These pets usually have been well taken care of, trained and "potty" trained (outside or pads). Tks for listening. Bob |

| ![]() I am so happy to see this turn into a happy thread about everyone's rescue stories. I have three and love them all. Pebbles was a rehome. My friend gave her to me when she decided she didn't have the time for her. If I wasn't going to take her she was going to the shelter. She was 5 months old when I brought her home. Not a true rescue but she surely isn't a standard yorkie at 11 lbs! She has papers that some thing are so important but, unless you plan on having their "papers" framed and attached to their neck really what difference does it make? There are YTers that have purchased from a breeder and ended up with a 10, 12 or 20 lb. yorkie which goes to show you just never know what you are going to end up with in the end. Then there is Doodlebug- I was very fortunate to adopt a puppy from a rescue and I realize that is not the norm, but then again I didn't have a long list of requirements on age, sex, color , weight, etc. He is a Morkie and his mom was purchased from an Amish Puppy Mill auction while she was pregnant with his litter. He was a puppy at only 10 wks when I brought him home from the rescue and is a doll. He is from a mill but I would say that many, many people right here on YT have purchased their puppies from pet shops aka puppy mills. So as far as I'm concerned he is not inferior to any other pet on YT. I was not looking for a specific size, color, or age, it was all by chance that I found him. We did drive to OH to pick him up but worth the 7 hour drive. He is very smart and beautiful to me. The sad thing is that it's been almost a year since his mom was saved and she is still at the rescue. She is absolutely a beautiful Maltese but at least she is still not living a life in a cage making puppies. Finally Bogey- I found him right here on YT in the rescue section! ![]() ![]() 1. Pebbles 2. Doodlebug 3 & 4. Bogey on the way home and then about a month ago. Thank you to everyone that posted pictures, stories and their support of rescue! There are so many more little ones in shelters right now. The way that I look at it is they just need love and if you have love to give they will give back 1000x's over. LadyJane you are so correct about not being able to tell just by looking which are rescues and which are not. They all just need love.

| ![]() Grandma just adopted a 8 years old little girl from a rescue . She is the most beautiful and happy little one . Its really heartwarming to feel the unconditional love she gives . She goes to one person to another always wagging her little tail and giving kisses to everyones . Needless to say we love her very much . Last edited by mingtoy; 12-27-2008 at 09:15 AM. |

| ![]() Thank you for posting pictures of your rescues. It confirms in my mind that I will rescue my next little one. It's just awesome to see how much these little ones change with just a little bit of love and care.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | ![]() Our Yorkie rescue was about 7 pounds when we got her, she was skin and bones. She is healthy now but I haven't had her on a scale in months. She has only been with us 6 months but considering where she came from she is doing very well.
