I take my dogs to a lot of places with me, but not stores unless they are pet stores. I take my dogs to the drive in movies, people's houses, car dealership when I have service done, outdoor ice cream stands, the beach, most recently a hotel in Boston that was pet friendly. I want them to be with me, but I know they cannot always be with me. I wish i could take them to work with me!

If my grocery store started allowing pets in it, I'd have to find a new store. I LOVE animals, but not all are clean and well kept, A food store is one place that should not allow pets at all.

My friend is HIGHLY allergic to my boys. Shes a mess within 5 mins of stepping into my house/car anywhere they have been. Also I have an aunt deathly afraid of dogs. I know fear like that. Im afraid of heights. But I do not have to climb ladders to get into stores and such. Fear is real and a person should be able food shop, eat at a restaurant in peace without being in fear of a dog in there. Society as a whole, people need to come before dogs, even though most of us like our dogs more than some people! LOL

I always try to bring my 3 Yorkies everywhere that they are allowed. I take them to Pier 1, TJ. Maxx, Ross, Marshall's, Lowes and Home Depot. I leave them in the Car when I go to Target & Walmart b/c they are NOT allowed and I get very Insulted when other People "Sneak" them in b/c I personally don't think it's right to have someone else's "Dog" near Food that I might buy?
The idea seems very disgusting to me! But I do think it's fine if they are well behaved and Socialized w/other People and other Dogs, as long as they are NOT Barking, whining, jumping, attacking, biting or growling at every moving being? I've seen all of that @ Petsmart and Petco, in fact Owner's don't even Clean-up after their own Pets! I was complaining to an Employee about how "Gross" I thought that was! I think it also depends where you are? The Bay Area, Carmel, LA in California are very Pet Friendly as well as Boston and Florida. Mine are only accepted here in Myrtle Beach b/c of the East Coast transplants and b/c they are considered an "Oddity" b/c they are a Family, a Father, Mother and Daughter and they are Small, Medium and Large in size and weight. Plus they are usually all Dressed-up in coordinating outfits and my male the "Metro Sexual" never leaves the House w/o his Topknot and Tail Braided w/matching Bows so People pay alot of attention to them out in Public. I always have them in a Shopping cart b/c Artie was attacked at a Pet Store by a Kerry Blue Terrier that jumped out of a Shopping Cart onto the Floor wher he was, he was still very young so he was Traumatized!

You needn't be wealthy at all for this store in particular. They do allow dogs in general. A Tiffany sales person did inform me that "We're a very pet friendly store. You can let your dog down on the floor if you want." It was a wet day and our dog had somewhat muddy feet. We opted not to as we preferred to carry her around inside stores and let her on the ground once we're outside the door or if we were sitting down in-store, but not while walking in case she thinks it's for her pee walk.

I've noticed on quite a few Starbucks here, especially at the downtown locations (we have one at the end of every block practically), it states something along the lines of "Please be considerate and leave your owners inside" with a doggy pictured. On occassion I would see some joggers carrying their dog under the arm while lining up for their orders otherwise, they're either tied outside or seated outside on the patio with a patron.

I used to see dogs being carried through the malls here a couple of years back but these days, mainly just downtown seems to be more pet friendly while the malls in other areas here will occassionally have someone point out that "dogs aren't allowed in this mall" but most seem to not notice or choose to overlook it if they're contained in a carrier out of sight. It's generally the mall securities that worry about this kind of thing while the sales are happy to see/pet them.

I take my girls to lots of places, I will ask if is ok, I will not take them in groceries stores, there is a lady that have a sig that said no pets allowed she don't sell food in therebut I ask her one time and she said is ok as long I don't put her in the floor but there is restaurants that, they had told me ok if I keep them in the bags; this area is very pet friendly, thank God

Also, that flight attendant was NOT stupid, she was doing as she was told to do. Just like you working, do you do what you're told to do or ignore your boss?

Obviously I disagree with your post; allow me to retort:

1) Flight attendants are allowed to bend to rules to do what is best for the passengers, and (I happen to know this for sure, since I was taking care of my pet) letting a dog stick its head out of a carrier in order to keep it quiet and content is infinitely less disruptive to a flight than having an upset yorkie barking his head off. The heat was on me when I was forced to shove my furbaby's head back in the carrier and have him upset all the local passengers.

2) If someone is allergic to a yorkie, it would not be appreciably worse if he had his head out of the carrier or not, so your this point of your argument begs the question, doesn't it?

3) There is no basis of comparison with smoking, which has no health benefits and is a carcinogen and causes heart and lung diseases. Last I checked, people are not highly allergic to dogs or the airlines would not let you even have them in the passenger cabin. The fact of the matter is, that many people are massively allergic to peanuts, and Delta sill offers those on every flight I go on.

You are very wrong, although not many, people have died from severe allergy attacks. Not everyone that smokes dies from cancer either. It's funny, I was on a delta flight back in August, and we never got peanuts

Over 443,000 Americans (over 18 percent of all deaths) die because of smoking each year. Secondhand smoke kills about 50,000 of them.

Yes, that is much more than how many people die from dog allergies.. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove, that smoking isn't bad and that bringing dogs anywhere is totally unacceptable . I can't find anything on deaths from allergies from dogs, but I'm sure there are a few. I'm not even sure how we got on the topic of deaths. I was on a Delta flight in October, and we got peanuts and pretzels!

I still believe it's ok to take small dogs places without food, but anywhere else isn't acceptable. Also, I don't think it is ok to take an aggressive, loud, or dog that isn't house trained. Just my opinion, of course.

I used to take Daisy and Teddy into a couple of hardware stores and they were welcomed and fussed over by the employees and customers. They don't seem to be as nice anymore. The employees don't say anything, but they act like they don't see us. I also took them in Hobby Lobby a couple of times and the customers loved them but employees ignored us. I felt as though they were not really welcome so I never took them back there. My babies are larger so they are much more visible. I wish we could take them into more stores. I just don't see people bringing dogs in stores around here.

my mother travels quite a bit on delta for business,she gets peanuts...also my grandfather currently has lung cancer from the disgusting habit of smoking(not trying to be rude but that is just how i feel about it and i would tell him the same) i think it is absolutely absurd to compare someting such as dog allergies to the horrible effects of smoking...although I am sure there are some people that do have severe allergies but it is much more rare to come across them than those with problems with smoke, I myself am highly allergic to smoke.to my knowledge nneessaa is correct, there are many less severe reactions to carrying your dog in public than smoke...

One last post in an attempt to find some common ground on this issue, then you can have the last word (at least from me)...

How would you feel about allowing your pet in a store if it's in a stroller or carrier/shoulder harness and not allowed to walk in a store on a leash?

I understand your point about not liking even a well trained dog like nneessaa's to go into a store walking on a leash in case it were to have an accident or get into something... That was not what I was suggesting, but there is a huge difference between letting your pet walk around in a store and carrying him/her with you in a secure carrier. Of course Seeing Eye dogs would be exempt from any restriction.

When I bring my yorkies into petsmart (and that is about the only store I have taken them into, although they have stayed in hotels and we've gone to restaurants when there is an outside table available), I always carry them or put them in the basket. I am paranoid that they will get sick from all the other dogs in the store; dont know if this is a valid concern at all, but I like carrying them anyhow, so that is what I do.

I only had a problem once at the mall while carrying trixie. A sales person gave me a friendly advice, telling me, that I could be escorted out of the mall if sequitity found out. Haven't take her to the mall ever since

I mean most stores here are pet friendly. The only ones that aren't are grocery stores and restaurants but even then i have seen people with small dogs in a carrier. In the grocery store one time i saw a guy with a pom in one of those carriers that go on your chest. It wasn't enclosed or anything and the pom was sticking out and nobody said anything to him. I haven't tried it there. But i did take one of the girls to Fairway in their carriers, but they weren't peeking out and the bag was closed so no one even knew. I've taken them to all kinds of stores and the mall too and all went good I think its fine as long as you're either carrying them in a carrier or something.
