| Well what's even more funny is a couple months ago we were taking the dogs to the river and on our way to my car, we ran into one of the neighbor dogs and they were playing with her. Well, we start to walk off again and I notice that my foot is really, really wet. I then realize I was peed on and I didn't know who did it. After the other day, I'm starting to think Smokey marked me.

Awww...your little girls are too precious!!! Well I just brought Cassi to the vet for her regular check-up and she has a grade 3 patella luxation on both her hind legs (athough her left leg is more like a grade 2-3). I'm so torn on whether I should bring her in for surgery now or wait until later. The thing is, her legs have never bothered her and she runs, jumps, bounce without ever having an issue. I'm definitely going to bring her to the New York Animal Hospital for a 2nd opinion.

| I always thought that I would do better with a girl cause girlz rule! heehee So I had had my heart SET on a girl! I never even thought about getting a boy. Never. But when my hubby took me to look at a puppy - he was the last one... he had a great personality and he was such a handsome little devil. I had to have him. I'm sure all puppies/dogs are different in the way they mark or even if they do, and all that techincal stuff.... I don't know much about that, but I DO know that when you meet the right puppy it won't matter if it's a boy or a girl. I mean sure, there are benefits to having one or the other (depending on what side your're on lol) but really, they all need homes and if you can find a great puppy for you -- overlook the sex. They all need the love your little heart is so overflowing with so get whichever makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

| I would favor the gals, but really not for any critical reasons (only so that I can put pretty bows in them w/o people questioning me LOL). I've had two yorkie girls, 1 spayed and 1's not, and they are both the sweetest things around. they are both very well behaved, and are mommy's little portable heaters when they needa be. but Im sure boys are just as good, I've just hadn't have the chance to have one. my cousin though, has had a chi boy (6lbs), he's about 1year (not neutured) and lift his leg and pees everywhere, he is kinda of hyperactive compare to my girls and can be destructive from time to time, but he is still a puppy, and a lot of it also came from my cousin not taking the time to train him. but he is very loving and playful, we love him to piece. so I would say, its really up to the individual dog and how well you train him/her!

| When we first started talking about a dog I was leaning more towards getting a male because I had heard they were the cuddlier of the two . On the other hand I was also hearing that they lift their leg and pee everywhere , so I was torn. We eventually ended up with a female , but that was really just luck of the draw. We were there to look at a different dog when we found Sydney. As far as being cuddly ...she is the most cuddly dog on earth !! She is very loving and I can't imagine a male being any more cuddly than Sydney. So it worked out fine for us. With Chloe we decided on another female because we had such luck with Sydney we figured ,why not ? Chloe is also very sweet and cuddly but she is more independent than Sydney. They both want to be with us 24/7 but Chloe is also happy to lay in her bed for a bit and take a break from us all

| boy vs. girl I want to know how you got your hubby to agree that you needed another one!!! I still can't convince mine of that. I can't attest to having two at the same time. I had a male who would really only cuddle when he was wiped out at night. Any other time, he wanted to play. Play is all he ever thought about. He loved my husband but was definitely partial to me. After he died suddenly, we wanted another one. My husband said a female this time because we didn't neuter the boy in time....he was hiking on our furniture and getting physical with everything. He even started humping my friend's head when we were sitting on the floor. He had jumped up on the couch and was licking her hair. It was quite hysterical. Anyway, the female crawled up in my husband's lap when we were trying to decide who to pick. That was all it took. She loves us both. And her temperament is very sweet...she'll lick you to death. She doesn't love other dogs as much as our male did. He never met a strange dog he didn't want to play with. She, on the other hand, has to definitely warm up to other dogs (even though she was raised with 9 others). Send me the secret to convincing the hubby!!! I agree that it is more dependent on the individual dog. Have fun looking! |

I know several cases where the owners waited too long and the joints were so deteriorated that successful surgery was no longer possible.

Trust me, it was not easy convincing my DH. I started bugging him about bringing home another furbaby since this past summer. Initially he said 'no'...then it became a 'maybe'...to eventually a 'yes'. I think you just need to be persistent about it. For me persistency paid off. Good luck with convincing your DH.

I'd get a second opinion from an orthopedic vet. If the other one is between a 2-3, he may recommend getting them both done at once.

Well I'm planning on bringing Cassi to the Animal Medical Center in New York (AMCNY) for annual check-up in April/May and will ask another vet for their opinion on Cassi's LP. In the meantime I definitely plan on taking her to see the orthopedic vet as well who is also affiliated with AMCNY. My friend recommended this place b/c not only do they have the vets practicing there, they also have the different specialist (orthopedic, cardiovascular, etc) on site as well. For now, I'm just going to keep a very close eye on her and if she starts to experience any problems, I'll bring her to AMCNY sooner. I'm also going to order Cosequin for her as well. Thanks again!

| Sorry to hear about your Cassi. I too would get another opinion but if surgery is required I would have it done sooner rather than later. I had my toy poodle's both knees done but at different times. He still had soreness and some limping for about a year after the surgeries but now he has no pain nor restrictions. I know he will become arthritic in time. As to the boys VS girls - I have had boys with boys and girls with boys and had no problem. Now for the first time I have two girls and they get along well. They are very loving to me and towards each other. They even tongue kiss and cuddle each other. LOL. Of course they are still puppies so I don't know what the future will bring or if their personalities may clash later. |
